CANCER FULL MOON - 3 January 2025

There is something very sobering about this Full Moon, with so much planetary energy now in realistic, responsible and practical Capricorn. On the one side we have the Moon and Jupiter in emotional, sensitive, nurturing, home-loving Cancer, while on the other side we have the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in a sign that tends to control the emotions and be quite stoic. The Cancer part of us tends to feel all of the feelings and allows emotions to guide the way, while the Capricorn part of us may suppress the emotions in favour of more practical and realistic considerations. During this Moon we could feel a tug of war between the two signs and may feel torn in some way between what our emotions are telling us and what seems to be more sensible, mature or reasonable.

The Moon is very much at home in her own sign, Cancer. We may experience heightened emotions in the build up to this Full Moon, and what comes up may not be particularly rational, although all of that Capricorn energy may try to stuff it back in the box and make sense of it! A Cancer Full Moon calls for us to honour our emotions and dare to be vulnerable, even if it feels scary or uncomfortable. With all of the Capricorn energy, we could be pondering some serious subject matter right now, as Capricorn calls for commitment, maturity, discipline, longevity and integrity. It is also interesting that Venus and Mars are sitting either side of the Sun, as it could bring the subject of relationships to the fore, as things come to a head so we can’t ignore them anymore. Venus in Capricorn is not light and fluffy – it demands maturity, serious intention, self-reflection, contemplation, structure and commitment to creating a solid foundation that can stand the test of time.

During this Moon we could be called to be very real and emotionally honest with ourselves. Capricorn brings a sobering element to the picture of this Moon, whereby we are called to see things as they really are, or make a concrete decision, or create a clear boundary, or step up to the plate somehow. We are being asked to be proper grown-ups! The Cancer part of us feels all of the feelings, while the Capricorn part of us puts those feelings into some kind of container that helps keep us safe. However, the key is to honour and allow the feelings rather than stuffing them down, pushing them away or suppressing them. It is good to have some degree of control over our emotions, but not so much that we can hardly feel them!

The Cancer part of us can sometimes be at the mercy of our emotions, and can be irrational, needy, childlike or insecure at times, while the Capricorn part of us takes full responsibility for ourselves, our actions and our emotions. However, Cancer can teach our inner Capricorn to be vulnerable and open with our feelings rather than holding it all back though fear of appearing weak, unreasonable or needy, or through fear of rejection. Emotions are not rational, and we can’t necessarily control them or reason them away, but what we do with those emotions certainly is our responsibility. Equally, we don’t have control over what other people do or say, but we do have control over how we react, respond and process any emotions that come up.

The ruler of Capricorn is Saturn, which is coming to the very end of its two and a half year journey through Pisces and will move into Aries on14 February. Saturn in Pisces can help us to create healthy boundaries that keep us safe, although Pisces teaches us that they can be gentle, soft and compassionate, rather than hard, unyielding walls of protection! Saturn is the Lord of Karma, and it feels important and poignant that it is now in the last few degrees of the entire zodiac. This is a time to close old karmic cycles, contracts, conditioning and patterns so that we are truly ready to move into the next phase, whatever that looks like!

Both Saturn and Neptune are at the end of Pisces right now, and so we are called to do our last bit of clearing, shedding and releasing before we enter the Year of the Fire Horse on 17 February. There may be grief in letting go, and that needs to be honoured, but we are currently being called to surrender and let go of anything that is simply not for us. This Moon seems to be calling for a kind of maturity and accountability that maybe we haven’t had before, and Saturn seems to be helping us to shed old, inherited patterns that simply no longer serve us. This has been a whole year of shedding and clearing, but we are now being called to have one last push to make sure we have squeezed out all of the gunk! A Cancer Full Moon is an ideal time to allow our emotions to show us what still needs looking at so that we can let go and move forward.

The Cancer Moon is also forming a supportive trine with the North Node in Pisces, which brings the potential for us to move forward on a soul level. The Pisces North Node has been calling for us to let go of trying to force outcomes and simply surrender to the flow, accepting that ultimately we are not in control. We are called to trust in the higher intelligence of the universe and to follow the cues, synchronicities and signs rather than resisting them. With Neptune, the ruler of the Pisces North Node, currently coming to the very end of the very last degree of the zodiac, this is a tender time of clearing, forgiving, releasing and surrendering. Tears may flow, especially during a Cancer Moon, and this could be so cleansing and purifying. It is so important to honour any emotions that come up at this time, as they are clearing the way for whatever is about to come in.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 14° Cancer, is a powerful one “A very old man facing a vast dark space to the northeast” which Dane Rudyar describes as “Fulfillment in transcending and changeless wisdom. This symbol describes the Wise Old Man, an archetypal figure found in all systems of symbolism. The Wise Old Man faces the Changeless Reality, the true north - which for us is located in a northeast direction. He faces the great Void, that apparent Darkness which is an intense Light invisible to our senses. Implied  in this symbol is that by consistently and for a long time meditating on the changeless and spiritual reality at the very core of all experiences, one can attain the supreme and age-old wisdom. We see in the symbol a way beyond appearances and toward PERMANENCE IN TRUTH.”

This sobering Sabian symbol talks of having the wisdom accumulated with age and life experience to face the unknown, something vast and bigger than we can as yet fathom. It gives the sense that we are standing on the precipice is something that is not familiar, so that we will need to find our way and release old patterns that are no longer relevant to wherever we are going. This feels very much in keeping with Saturn and Neptune ending their cycle in Pisces, and also gives a nod to the huge amount of Capricorn energy present at the moment. We must release the past and step forward into the unknown, not falling back into familiar, outworn patterns, but not rushing forward either. Now, at this moment, we are standing still and waiting for what lies ahead.

A Cancer Full Moon asks for us to be vulnerable and dare to reveal our true feelings, while Capricorn calls for maturity, integrity,  accountability and full responsibility for ourselves and our feelings. This does feel like a very serious, weighty Full Moon that could call for us to step up to the plate somehow and set strong intentions, goals and big resolutions and lay down some strong foundations for whatever lies ahead. It is a powerful time for making commitments to ourselves and others. With Venus and Mars so close together, straddling the Sun and opposing the Moon, relationships are definitely highlighted and some strong emotions could come up to be processed and resolved.

The key to a Cancer Full Moon is to feel into the emotions and listen to what they tell us, which is Cancer’s domain, while also keeping our feet on the ground and being realistic and pragmatic, which is Capricorn’s superpower. Ultimately we are being called forward into a new level of emotional maturity that is beautiful and profound, but may also feel new and as yet unfamiliar. Like the old man, we must simply stand still and be brave and open to whatever awaits us around the next bend of the river.

Much love

SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON - 20 December 2025

Exact at 1.43am UK time (GMT)

This particular New Moon is full to the brim with Sagittarius, and is a reminder to keep the faith. We have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Juno all in this hopeful, optimistic, forward thinking, philosophical sign, helping us to look forward, aim high and set some hopeful intentions for the month ahead. It might be interesting to note the conversations and subject matter of our musings during this time, as this will give us a clue as to our deepest hopes and wishes. Something may need to be left behind in the dark of the Moon, making space for what is waiting to come in. This number 9/ Snake year has been a time of releasing and shedding, and we are now approaching the Solstice, so this Sagittarius Moon calls for us to do some more clearing, releasing and letting go and then we are encouraged to look forward and not look back.

Sagittarius is the part of us that has faith, and seeks to understand the truth of life and our existence. It is the part of us that experiences intuitive “knowing”, even if we can’t  exactly rationally explain why or how we know what we know. Sagittarius is the adventurous part of us that likes to roam free, opening our minds and broadening our horizons. It is the part of us that dreams of greener pastures and can sometimes feel restless and dissatisfied with life if it has become too dull, stagnant or routinised. Sagittarius questions and explores and is always seeking to grow and expand. It helps us to see the silver lining in every cloud and the light at the end of every tunnel, because it understands that every experience, no matter how difficult, has something to teach us and can help us to grow. It helps us to maintain a sense of humour even in the most difficult of times.

This could be a good Moon for contemplating what truly inspires us and ignites our passion and enthusiasm, and for setting intentions that can help us to grow and expand beyond where we are now. It might help to look at where we feel stuck or restless, and to recognise what is holding us back from what we truly want for ourselves. We could be called to be really honest with ourselves, recognising any beliefs, patterns, obstacles or attitudes that might be preventing us from taking the leap of faith that we so dearly desire. Sagittarius isn’t afraid to shoot for the stars, but so often we hesitate to aim that high, as doubts and fears get in the way. This Moon invites us to truly let go of what is not meant for us so that we can fully focus on what we want to bring in. “Keep the Faith!” says Sagittarius! Sometimes that is not so easy, however.

The ruler of this Sagittarius Moon is Jupiter, which is currently retrograde in Cancer, which could make it a bit harder to see our way forward, or to feel quite as upbeat, hopeful, enthusiastic, jovial and optimistic as we might usually do during Sagittarius season. Jupiter is very happy in Cancer, however, bringing warmth, emotional intelligence, generosity of spirit and helping us to share our feelings and vulnerabilities with one another. It points towards quieter, more private emotional growth, whereby we benefit from tending to our inner world rather than chasing something outside of ourselves or some far away dream.

Growth is an inside job when Jupiter is in sensitive, nurturing, family-oriented Cancer! Our emotions have great wisdom and can show us the way. We may benefit greatly from exploring our ancestral line during this time, and recognising the beliefs and patterns that have carried forward from generation to generation.

While we do have a lot of Sagittarius energy during this Moon, the Sun, Moon, Venus and Juno are all being challenged by Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Uranus in Taurus, which could temper the enthusiasm somewhat, making the atmosphere feel a bit heavy and bleak and testing our faith somewhat. Both Saturn and Neptune are back in Pisces having dipped into pioneering, energetic Aries for a little while this year. They have some finishing off to do in Pisces! Saturn is the planet of structure, limitation, commitment and reality, and could have a bit of a sobering effect on this Sagittarius New Moon. Sagittarius has ultimate faith and sets its sights high, while Saturn calls for us to ground our dreams in reality and could bring up fears and doubts, testing our optimism and faith. Sagittarius is a bit like enthusiastic and buoyant Tigger from the Winnie the Pooh books, while Saturn brings Eeyore energy to rain on Tigger’s parade!

The square between Saturn and Venus is building in strength during this Moon, exact on 21 December, the day of the Solstice. This can be a testing time for our relationships and self-worth, Although it could help us to be very real with one another. It could also bring fear of lack and a need to tighten the purse strings. Saturn calls for us to get real about our relationships and financial situation, seeing things as they really are rather than how we would like them to be. It can also help us to create better boundaries, especially if we have been over-extending and over-giving. Venus in Sagittarius wants to have a jolly time and is very sociable, while Saturn can bring more restraint and could even bring feelings of loneliness, heaviness or withholding of affection. We could experience inner conflict between the seasonal pressure to be uber sociable and the need to turn inward and embrace solitude. In an ideal world we will be able to honour both.

Neptune is still sitting at 29° Pisces, the very last degree of the entire zodiac, which feels so poignant as we come to the end of this Snake/Number 9 year. There is a sense that we are closing a chapter, but it is unclear what is coming next, as Neptune can make things rather confusing and foggy. This is a time of release, surrender and letting go, and we could experience feelings of grief, overwhelm, confusion or disillusionment as we do so. Neptune is the ruler of the Pisces North Node, which is calling for us to let go of the need to control outcomes and simply surrender to the flow, accepting what is rather than trying to force anything. Neptune is calling for us to clear and wash away anything that is still muddying our waters.

Sagittarius is full of energy, enthusiasm, faith and fire, while Neptune in this very important degree of Pisces is calling for us to turn within and be still. Neptune square the Sun, which is exact early on 21 December, can bring fatigue, listlessness, confusion, overwhelm and ungroundedness. As such, it is so important that we are kind to ourselves and others during this New Moon and Solstice, and do what we can to ground ourselves. It is an ideal time to strengthen our relationship with Spirit, through meditation, prayer, singing, dancing, spending time in nature or whatever brings us a sense of spiritual connection. Our dream life could be prolific and our dreams could contain important messages, and it is important to pay attention to the subtle signs and messages that the universe is sending our way.

Neptune goes back into Aries on 27 January, sparking new energy, and until then we are called to release, surrender, grieve, forgive, let go, allow and accept. It may not make sense, but this is a time of completion, when things may simply fall away, because they are not meant for us anymore. It might help to look back to March 30 2025, and the few weeks that preceded it, as this is when Neptune first left Pisces to move into Aries, so the energy of that time is akin to now. Except that this time Neptune will be leaving Pisces for good. This is a powerful and important time in our spiritual journey and it will be interesting to see what might happen between now and 27 January. What might need to dissolve and end? What needs to be washed away? Who and what do we need to forgive so that we can move onto the next phase, whatever that might look like? What do we need to let go of, once and for all, so that we can move on?

Uranus is forming a nagging inconjunct aspect to the Sun and Moon, which could add to the restless energy of this Sagittarius New Moon. Uranus in Taurus can make us all too aware of where we are stuck or stagnant and what needs to change. Uranus can be quite disruptive, bringing curve balls and sudden jolts that create greater awareness, insight and clarity around what needs to change in our lives. Our nervous systems could feel a bit jangly, and we could feel on edge and vaguely unsettled, which could bring feelings of anxiety, especially combined with the energy of Saturn and Neptune. We could feel a bit uncomfortable, feeling like the ground is shifting under our feet but not knowing what lies ahead. However, ultimately Uranus can liberate us from unhealthy patterns and bring clarity, revelation and insight, so maybe we simply need to obey Saturn and be patient and wait. All will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Mercury in Sagittarius is directly square the Node of the Moon, which could mean that while our minds want certainty and to make sense of things, there are somethings that our minds simply can’t fathom, and this could be one of those times! The North Node in Pisces is calling for us to simply trust and allow things to unfold as they will, putting our faith in a higher intelligence and an unknown outcome. There could be fated conversations, messages, communications or inner realisations that are somehow very important during this Moon. We could be called to trust our intuitive hunches, reading between the lines and paying attention to the hidden meaning and subtle signs and synchronicities. Sometimes we need to give the mind a rest and admit that we don’t know, putting our trust in something bigger and more divinely intelligent than ourselves, and this might be one of those moments. Some things are too big for the limited capacity of our rational minds to grasp. We simply need faith.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 29° Sagittarius, is intriguing: “A fat boy mowing the lawn of his house on an elegant suburban street”, which Dane Rudyar describes as: “The need to attend to everyday tasks which both ensure social worth or respectability, and benefit one’s constitution. A well-attended front lawn is a symbol of the homeowner’s concern for his social position and of his desire to give beautiful form to the growth of natural forces, thus revealing his appreciation of order and aesthetic values. The “fat boy” suggests that constructive working habits are needed to compensate for self-indulgence in the amenities of social living. This symbol speaks of one of the commonplace technical imperatives which face an individual belonging to the social elite. It reveals another phase in the cycle relationship between the individual and the community, and the need to maintain SOCIAL RESPECTABILITY.”

Sagittarius is such an enthusiastic sign that can bring so much optimism, faith and hope, even in the darkest of times. This Moon urges us not to lose faith, even when things seem hard, heavy, dark or bleak. Venus sitting right next to the Sun and Moon certainly brings the potential for love, affection and a sense of humour as we approach the Solstice.  With Saturn and Neptune involved, however, we could experience feelings of overwhelm, sensitivity, fear or even foreboding, and we may struggle to feel grounded with the fast pace of a Sagittarius season. We are being called to clear, wash away and release, finding true compassion and forgiveness in our hearts so that we can fully let go and move on. What awaits us on the other side is unknown, but Sagittarius invites us to keep the faith, look forward and don’t look back. It’s time to let the light in.

GEMINI FULL MOON - 4 December 2025

Picture
Exact at 11.14pm UK time (GMT)

This Full Moon activates the Nodes of the Moon, which feels quite fateful and could force us out of our comfort zones and help us to grow and evolve. It is also a Supermoon, which amplifies the energy of the Full Moon and has a greater effect on our mind, body, emotions and spirit. Full Moons are a moment of culmination, when whatever has been simmering away in the background comes to the surface. A Gemini Full Moon is generally quite lively and could bring a lot of communication and mental chatter, not to mention information overload. It is important to watch our thought patterns during this Moon, as whatever we think and say can have a bigger impact than usual.

The Sun is now in optimistic, philosophical, adventurous  Sagittarius, sitting directly opposite the curious, talkative, adaptable Gemini Moon. As ever, we are called to find some balance between the energy of the two signs, rather than veering too far in either direction. Gemini is the part of us that likes to gather a lot of information in order to make sense out of things, which can lead to overwhelm as we take in too much. The Sagittarius part of us, on the other hand, has a strong intuition and gut instinct, but may struggle to find the right words to express our inner knowing.  Sagittarius can be quite blunt when voicing beliefs and truths! This is where Gemini comes in, helping us to deliver what we intuitively know in a way that people can understand and accept.

The pace generally quickens with a Gemini Full Moon, as our minds are more active and it can feel like a lot is going on. Indeed, we could feel a bit over-stimulated, confused and scattered, as if we have our finger in too many pies at once! Our conversations could have greater significance, and we may find that we need to voice something important. This Moon activates the throat chakra, so we could become more aware if it is open or blocked. There is the potential for throat issues, which could be a sign that we need to work on having a voice and communicating honestly and clearly.

The ruler of this Gemini Moon is Mercury, which is still in Scorpio and is now direct after being retrograde. As such, the conversations we have around this time are not likely to be superficial, but could be deep, penetrating, exposing, emotionally honest, revealing and psychologically insightful. Scorpio is not afraid of peering into some dark corners to bring out the truth, even if it is not pretty! Mercury is also forming a nagging inconjunct to Chiron the Wounded healer, bringing open, candid and potentially difficult, triggering or painful conversations that could ultimately be very healing. Emotions can ride high during a Full Moon, so it is important to be mindful of what we think and say. Our minds could go to some rather deep and dark places with Mercury in Scorpio, and we could find ourselves either delivering or receiving some home truths that are not very comfortable. Scorpio forces us to be emotionally honest, and with the Sun, Venus and Mars all in Sagittarius, the truth seeker, we may blurt out some truths that are somewhat hard to stomach!

The Sun and Moon are forming an exact mutable square with the Nodes of the Moon, which feels very significant and brings a fated quality to this Full Moon. We are currently being called to release ourselves from any unhelpful qualities of the Virgo South Node, such as self-criticism, worry, over analysing, perfectionism or trying to control outcomes. We are being called towards the energy of the Pisces North Node, which involves truly learning to go with the flow, not forcing things but rather recognising the signs and following where we are being guided. Pisces asks us to be fully present and to develop greater acceptance and forgiveness of our flaws, and to cultivate a deeper connection with Spirit. The Nodes are a huge part of this Moon, so it can help to recognise any opportunities we have to step towards the Pisces North Node, and to be mindful when we might be falling back into any unhelpful Virgo tendencies.

With the Sun and Moon squaring the Nodes, we could be called to watch the way our mind works, recognising how our mental chatter, thought patterns, worry and over-analysis prevents us from finding a sense of flow and connection. Instead of overthinking or relying on logic and reason, we are called to still the mind and tune into our inner knowing and internal guidance, reconnecting with our spiritual compass. Pisces calls for us to surrender to something bigger than ourselves, letting go of the reins and allowing Spirit to guide us. There could be some fated conversations or messages coming through that lead us in the right direction. Prayer, meditation, consulting the IChing,Tarot or oracle cards, using a pendulum or talking to a trusted healer, spiritual teacher, therapist or counsellor could be very helpful and illuminating during this time.

This is not the time to rely solely on logic, or try and figure everything out with our minds. The Pisces North Node invites us to heed the quiet voice within, listening to our gut following the signs and omens, even if it doesn’t make total sense and feels a bit scary or uncomfortable. This mutable square could also help us to recognise the inner chatter and stories we are telling ourselves, and to let them go, finding greater acceptance for ourselves. It can also help us to listen to other points of view, rather than getting too fixated on our own point of view. Indeed, there could be some important exchanges during this Moon that could be quite fateful and can show us the way. Messages from Spirit can come in many guises, so it is important to be open, mindful and alert, and we could benefit from opening up a line of communication with Spirit, or God, or Source, or the Divine, or whatever is our preferred label for the unseen forces that guide us.

There is also a Grand Water Trine occurring during this Moon, which is rather beautiful and could really help us to connect to our inner wisdom and guidance. It also involves the ruler of the Moon, Mercury in Scorpio, as well as Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer. Neptune in Pisces is also involved, although more loosely. This Grand Trine calls for us to use our emotional intelligence and feel the feelings, as our emotions can help guide us in the right direction. This Trine invites us to connect with a deeper wisdom, to look beneath the surface and to have compassion for whatever we find there. Saturn’s involvement can make everything very real, and combined with Mercury our thoughts and conversations could be rather real, sombre and weighty.

Gemini may be quite a light, airy sign, but this Full Moon doesn’t feel light. However, this Grand Water Trine does help us to see the bigger picture, while also helping us to keep our feet on the ground and see things as they really are. Luckily the Sun, Venus and Mars all in Sagittarius can also help us to keep the faith and maintain a sense of humour. Sagittarius helps us to find a sense of higher meaning, even in the darkest of times, and can always see the light at the end of the tunnel and a lesson in everything that happens to us.

That being said, Mars and Saturn are also squaring off against each other, exact on Monday 8 December, which could affect our energy levels and motivation, and could possibly make it a bit harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We may struggle to see a way forward and could doubt ourselves and find ourselves blocked from acting, or feel physically tired or drained. We may experience feelings of futility and fear of the unknown that prevents us from being brave and taking risks. There may also be ideological  conflicts with authority, or force being used by those in authority.

Ultimately Saturn can help us to act with discipline and integrity and could test our capacity to commit to a course of action. We may be called to do the right thing even if it is the hardest thing to do. Saturn teaches us patience, so we could simply need to wait for the right time to act. It may feel like we are procrastinating, but sometimes it is merely a case of waiting for divine timing and inspiration. If the way forward feels blocked, it may help to simply trust that now isn’t the time, and that we will somehow know the right time to act. Possibly we are simply being called to surrender our will to a higher authority. Those of us with personal planets or angles within a couple of degrees of 25° of a sign will feel the energy of this Mars Saturn square the most acutely, especially the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 14° Gemini, feels like it is pointing us to the Pisces North Node and the Grand Water Trine: “Bridging physical space and social distinctions, two men communicate telepathically”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The capacity to transcend the limitations of bodily existence. In order to function in the world of material entities man needs to focus the energies of life in a limited organism and an ego-mind that is formed by the pressures of a particular culture and family background. Yet a time comes when the individual can still transcend the limiting boundaries of culture and ego. An effort should then be made to enter a realm of consciousness in which the communication from mind to mind can take a more direct form, because the minds then operate within the One Mind of humanity. It is then as if two cells in human body were communicating to each other, perhaps through some kind of invisible nerve channels, or, as it were, from nucleus to nucleus by means of vibratory resonance.  With this symbol we see the potentiality of a new technique to be used in the “newly opened lands” confronting the pioneers in human evolution. It is a TECHNIQUE OF TRANSCENDENCE. It evidently can also bring confusion and many failures, as well as illusory claims and self-deceit.”

This symbol seems to be calling for us to connect in ways that transcend words, and to interact on a more felt, intuitive, emotional level. There is more going on in each conversation than mere words, and maybe we are being called to tap into the deeper thread that runs alongside our interactions. Neptune is still sitting at 29° Pisces, where it will stay until 26 January. As we near the end of the Year of the Snake and prepare to move into the Fire Horse year on 17 February, what else do we need to shed? What remains for us to release and let go of? What is coming to completion? What started in 2011, when Neptune entered Pisces, that is now culminating? It does feel as if we are being called to turn inward, for now, and connect deeply with our emotions and inner guidance system, and that the most important conversation that we can have right now is with Spirit. As we do so, hopefully we will be shown the way.

Much Love

I love writing about the Moon and the effect it has on us all, both collectively and personally. We all look at the same Moon and feel her energy, albeit in different ways. It reminds us that we are not alone and there is something very comforting about that!
