CANCER FULL MOON - 3 January 2025

There is something very sobering about this Full Moon, with so much planetary energy now in realistic, responsible and practical Capricorn. On the one side we have the Moon and Jupiter in emotional, sensitive, nurturing, home-loving Cancer, while on the other side we have the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in a sign that tends to control the emotions and be quite stoic. The Cancer part of us tends to feel all of the feelings and allows emotions to guide the way, while the Capricorn part of us may suppress the emotions in favour of more practical and realistic considerations. During this Moon we could feel a tug of war between the two signs and may feel torn in some way between what our emotions are telling us and what seems to be more sensible, mature or reasonable.

The Moon is very much at home in her own sign, Cancer. We may experience heightened emotions in the build up to this Full Moon, and what comes up may not be particularly rational, although all of that Capricorn energy may try to stuff it back in the box and make sense of it! A Cancer Full Moon calls for us to honour our emotions and dare to be vulnerable, even if it feels scary or uncomfortable. With all of the Capricorn energy, we could be pondering some serious subject matter right now, as Capricorn calls for commitment, maturity, discipline, longevity and integrity. It is also interesting that Venus and Mars are sitting either side of the Sun, as it could bring the subject of relationships to the fore, as things come to a head so we can’t ignore them anymore. Venus in Capricorn is not light and fluffy – it demands maturity, serious intention, self-reflection, contemplation, structure and commitment to creating a solid foundation that can stand the test of time.

During this Moon we could be called to be very real and emotionally honest with ourselves. Capricorn brings a sobering element to the picture of this Moon, whereby we are called to see things as they really are, or make a concrete decision, or create a clear boundary, or step up to the plate somehow. We are being asked to be proper grown-ups! The Cancer part of us feels all of the feelings, while the Capricorn part of us puts those feelings into some kind of container that helps keep us safe. However, the key is to honour and allow the feelings rather than stuffing them down, pushing them away or suppressing them. It is good to have some degree of control over our emotions, but not so much that we can hardly feel them!

The Cancer part of us can sometimes be at the mercy of our emotions, and can be irrational, needy, childlike or insecure at times, while the Capricorn part of us takes full responsibility for ourselves, our actions and our emotions. However, Cancer can teach our inner Capricorn to be vulnerable and open with our feelings rather than holding it all back though fear of appearing weak, unreasonable or needy, or through fear of rejection. Emotions are not rational, and we can’t necessarily control them or reason them away, but what we do with those emotions certainly is our responsibility. Equally, we don’t have control over what other people do or say, but we do have control over how we react, respond and process any emotions that come up.

The ruler of Capricorn is Saturn, which is coming to the very end of its two and a half year journey through Pisces and will move into Aries on14 February. Saturn in Pisces can help us to create healthy boundaries that keep us safe, although Pisces teaches us that they can be gentle, soft and compassionate, rather than hard, unyielding walls of protection! Saturn is the Lord of Karma, and it feels important and poignant that it is now in the last few degrees of the entire zodiac. This is a time to close old karmic cycles, contracts, conditioning and patterns so that we are truly ready to move into the next phase, whatever that looks like!

Both Saturn and Neptune are at the end of Pisces right now, and so we are called to do our last bit of clearing, shedding and releasing before we enter the Year of the Fire Horse on 17 February. There may be grief in letting go, and that needs to be honoured, but we are currently being called to surrender and let go of anything that is simply not for us. This Moon seems to be calling for a kind of maturity and accountability that maybe we haven’t had before, and Saturn seems to be helping us to shed old, inherited patterns that simply no longer serve us. This has been a whole year of shedding and clearing, but we are now being called to have one last push to make sure we have squeezed out all of the gunk! A Cancer Full Moon is an ideal time to allow our emotions to show us what still needs looking at so that we can let go and move forward.

The Cancer Moon is also forming a supportive trine with the North Node in Pisces, which brings the potential for us to move forward on a soul level. The Pisces North Node has been calling for us to let go of trying to force outcomes and simply surrender to the flow, accepting that ultimately we are not in control. We are called to trust in the higher intelligence of the universe and to follow the cues, synchronicities and signs rather than resisting them. With Neptune, the ruler of the Pisces North Node, currently coming to the very end of the very last degree of the zodiac, this is a tender time of clearing, forgiving, releasing and surrendering. Tears may flow, especially during a Cancer Moon, and this could be so cleansing and purifying. It is so important to honour any emotions that come up at this time, as they are clearing the way for whatever is about to come in.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 14° Cancer, is a powerful one “A very old man facing a vast dark space to the northeast” which Dane Rudyar describes as “Fulfillment in transcending and changeless wisdom. This symbol describes the Wise Old Man, an archetypal figure found in all systems of symbolism. The Wise Old Man faces the Changeless Reality, the true north - which for us is located in a northeast direction. He faces the great Void, that apparent Darkness which is an intense Light invisible to our senses. Implied  in this symbol is that by consistently and for a long time meditating on the changeless and spiritual reality at the very core of all experiences, one can attain the supreme and age-old wisdom. We see in the symbol a way beyond appearances and toward PERMANENCE IN TRUTH.”

This sobering Sabian symbol talks of having the wisdom accumulated with age and life experience to face the unknown, something vast and bigger than we can as yet fathom. It gives the sense that we are standing on the precipice is something that is not familiar, so that we will need to find our way and release old patterns that are no longer relevant to wherever we are going. This feels very much in keeping with Saturn and Neptune ending their cycle in Pisces, and also gives a nod to the huge amount of Capricorn energy present at the moment. We must release the past and step forward into the unknown, not falling back into familiar, outworn patterns, but not rushing forward either. Now, at this moment, we are standing still and waiting for what lies ahead.

A Cancer Full Moon asks for us to be vulnerable and dare to reveal our true feelings, while Capricorn calls for maturity, integrity,  accountability and full responsibility for ourselves and our feelings. This does feel like a very serious, weighty Full Moon that could call for us to step up to the plate somehow and set strong intentions, goals and big resolutions and lay down some strong foundations for whatever lies ahead. It is a powerful time for making commitments to ourselves and others. With Venus and Mars so close together, straddling the Sun and opposing the Moon, relationships are definitely highlighted and some strong emotions could come up to be processed and resolved.

The key to a Cancer Full Moon is to feel into the emotions and listen to what they tell us, which is Cancer’s domain, while also keeping our feet on the ground and being realistic and pragmatic, which is Capricorn’s superpower. Ultimately we are being called forward into a new level of emotional maturity that is beautiful and profound, but may also feel new and as yet unfamiliar. Like the old man, we must simply stand still and be brave and open to whatever awaits us around the next bend of the river.

Much love

GEMINI FULL MOON - 4 December 2025

Exact at 11.14pm UK time (GMT)

This Full Moon activates the Nodes of the Moon, which feels quite fateful and could force us out of our comfort zones and help us to grow and evolve. It is also a Supermoon, which amplifies the energy of the Full Moon and has a greater effect on our mind, body, emotions and spirit. Full Moons are a moment of culmination, when whatever has been simmering away in the background comes to the surface. A Gemini Full Moon is generally quite lively and could bring a lot of communication and mental chatter, not to mention information overload. It is important to watch our thought patterns during this Moon, as whatever we think and say can have a bigger impact than usual.

The Sun is now in optimistic, philosophical, adventurous  Sagittarius, sitting directly opposite the curious, talkative, adaptable Gemini Moon. As ever, we are called to find some balance between the energy of the two signs, rather than veering too far in either direction. Gemini is the part of us that likes to gather a lot of information in order to make sense out of things, which can lead to overwhelm as we take in too much. The Sagittarius part of us, on the other hand, has a strong intuition and gut instinct, but may struggle to find the right words to express our inner knowing.  Sagittarius can be quite blunt when voicing beliefs and truths! This is where Gemini comes in, helping us to deliver what we intuitively know in a way that people can understand and accept.

The pace generally quickens with a Gemini Full Moon, as our minds are more active and it can feel like a lot is going on. Indeed, we could feel a bit over-stimulated, confused and scattered, as if we have our finger in too many pies at once! Our conversations could have greater significance, and we may find that we need to voice something important. This Moon activates the throat chakra, so we could become more aware if it is open or blocked. There is the potential for throat issues, which could be a sign that we need to work on having a voice and communicating honestly and clearly.

The ruler of this Gemini Moon is Mercury, which is still in Scorpio and is now direct after being retrograde. As such, the conversations we have around this time are not likely to be superficial, but could be deep, penetrating, exposing, emotionally honest, revealing and psychologically insightful. Scorpio is not afraid of peering into some dark corners to bring out the truth, even if it is not pretty! Mercury is also forming a nagging inconjunct to Chiron the Wounded healer, bringing open, candid and potentially difficult, triggering or painful conversations that could ultimately be very healing. Emotions can ride high during a Full Moon, so it is important to be mindful of what we think and say. Our minds could go to some rather deep and dark places with Mercury in Scorpio, and we could find ourselves either delivering or receiving some home truths that are not very comfortable. Scorpio forces us to be emotionally honest, and with the Sun, Venus and Mars all in Sagittarius, the truth seeker, we may blurt out some truths that are somewhat hard to stomach!

The Sun and Moon are forming an exact mutable square with the Nodes of the Moon, which feels very significant and brings a fated quality to this Full Moon. We are currently being called to release ourselves from any unhelpful qualities of the Virgo South Node, such as self-criticism, worry, over analysing, perfectionism or trying to control outcomes. We are being called towards the energy of the Pisces North Node, which involves truly learning to go with the flow, not forcing things but rather recognising the signs and following where we are being guided. Pisces asks us to be fully present and to develop greater acceptance and forgiveness of our flaws, and to cultivate a deeper connection with Spirit. The Nodes are a huge part of this Moon, so it can help to recognise any opportunities we have to step towards the Pisces North Node, and to be mindful when we might be falling back into any unhelpful Virgo tendencies.

With the Sun and Moon squaring the Nodes, we could be called to watch the way our mind works, recognising how our mental chatter, thought patterns, worry and over-analysis prevents us from finding a sense of flow and connection. Instead of overthinking or relying on logic and reason, we are called to still the mind and tune into our inner knowing and internal guidance, reconnecting with our spiritual compass. Pisces calls for us to surrender to something bigger than ourselves, letting go of the reins and allowing Spirit to guide us. There could be some fated conversations or messages coming through that lead us in the right direction. Prayer, meditation, consulting the IChing,Tarot or oracle cards, using a pendulum or talking to a trusted healer, spiritual teacher, therapist or counsellor could be very helpful and illuminating during this time.

This is not the time to rely solely on logic, or try and figure everything out with our minds. The Pisces North Node invites us to heed the quiet voice within, listening to our gut following the signs and omens, even if it doesn’t make total sense and feels a bit scary or uncomfortable. This mutable square could also help us to recognise the inner chatter and stories we are telling ourselves, and to let them go, finding greater acceptance for ourselves. It can also help us to listen to other points of view, rather than getting too fixated on our own point of view. Indeed, there could be some important exchanges during this Moon that could be quite fateful and can show us the way. Messages from Spirit can come in many guises, so it is important to be open, mindful and alert, and we could benefit from opening up a line of communication with Spirit, or God, or Source, or the Divine, or whatever is our preferred label for the unseen forces that guide us.

There is also a Grand Water Trine occurring during this Moon, which is rather beautiful and could really help us to connect to our inner wisdom and guidance. It also involves the ruler of the Moon, Mercury in Scorpio, as well as Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer. Neptune in Pisces is also involved, although more loosely. This Grand Trine calls for us to use our emotional intelligence and feel the feelings, as our emotions can help guide us in the right direction. This Trine invites us to connect with a deeper wisdom, to look beneath the surface and to have compassion for whatever we find there. Saturn’s involvement can make everything very real, and combined with Mercury our thoughts and conversations could be rather real, sombre and weighty.

Gemini may be quite a light, airy sign, but this Full Moon doesn’t feel light. However, this Grand Water Trine does help us to see the bigger picture, while also helping us to keep our feet on the ground and see things as they really are. Luckily the Sun, Venus and Mars all in Sagittarius can also help us to keep the faith and maintain a sense of humour. Sagittarius helps us to find a sense of higher meaning, even in the darkest of times, and can always see the light at the end of the tunnel and a lesson in everything that happens to us.

That being said, Mars and Saturn are also squaring off against each other, exact on Monday 8 December, which could affect our energy levels and motivation, and could possibly make it a bit harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We may struggle to see a way forward and could doubt ourselves and find ourselves blocked from acting, or feel physically tired or drained. We may experience feelings of futility and fear of the unknown that prevents us from being brave and taking risks. There may also be ideological  conflicts with authority, or force being used by those in authority.

Ultimately Saturn can help us to act with discipline and integrity and could test our capacity to commit to a course of action. We may be called to do the right thing even if it is the hardest thing to do. Saturn teaches us patience, so we could simply need to wait for the right time to act. It may feel like we are procrastinating, but sometimes it is merely a case of waiting for divine timing and inspiration. If the way forward feels blocked, it may help to simply trust that now isn’t the time, and that we will somehow know the right time to act. Possibly we are simply being called to surrender our will to a higher authority. Those of us with personal planets or angles within a couple of degrees of 25° of a sign will feel the energy of this Mars Saturn square the most acutely, especially the mutable signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 14° Gemini, feels like it is pointing us to the Pisces North Node and the Grand Water Trine: “Bridging physical space and social distinctions, two men communicate telepathically”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The capacity to transcend the limitations of bodily existence. In order to function in the world of material entities man needs to focus the energies of life in a limited organism and an ego-mind that is formed by the pressures of a particular culture and family background. Yet a time comes when the individual can still transcend the limiting boundaries of culture and ego. An effort should then be made to enter a realm of consciousness in which the communication from mind to mind can take a more direct form, because the minds then operate within the One Mind of humanity. It is then as if two cells in human body were communicating to each other, perhaps through some kind of invisible nerve channels, or, as it were, from nucleus to nucleus by means of vibratory resonance.  With this symbol we see the potentiality of a new technique to be used in the “newly opened lands” confronting the pioneers in human evolution. It is a TECHNIQUE OF TRANSCENDENCE. It evidently can also bring confusion and many failures, as well as illusory claims and self-deceit.”

This symbol seems to be calling for us to connect in ways that transcend words, and to interact on a more felt, intuitive, emotional level. There is more going on in each conversation than mere words, and maybe we are being called to tap into the deeper thread that runs alongside our interactions. Neptune is still sitting at 29° Pisces, where it will stay until 26 January. As we near the end of the Year of the Snake and prepare to move into the Fire Horse year on 17 February, what else do we need to shed? What remains for us to release and let go of? What is coming to completion? What started in 2011, when Neptune entered Pisces, that is now culminating? It does feel as if we are being called to turn inward, for now, and connect deeply with our emotions and inner guidance system, and that the most important conversation that we can have right now is with Spirit. As we do so, hopefully we will be shown the way.

Much Love

ARIES FULL MOON / SUPERMOON - 17 October 2024

Picture
Exact at 12.26pm UK time (BST)

This is a big, bold, brave Full Moon, in true Aries style! It is a supermoon, which means that it appears larger in the night sky and has a greater impact on our minds, bodies and spirits. It is also in independent, brave, direct, enthusiastic and impulsive Aries, the first sign of the zodiac that represents the initial spark that can easily start a raging fire! This Moon is activating the relationship axis of Libra and Aries, the two signs that represent our need to be in relationship to other (Libra) and our need to be our own person (Aries). Ultimately, we are called to find a balance between the two signs, rather than veering too far in one direction or the other.

In quite simple terms, Libra is the sign of peace and Aries is the god of war. Libra is the part of us that tends to acquiesce or turn a blind eye to certain issues in order to maintain a sense of peace and harmony, not wanting to rock the boat or cause friction. It is the part of us that strives to be reasonable and struggles with harsh or “ugly” emotional reactions. Aries, however, is the part of us that isn’t afraid to bring thorny issues out into the open, confronting them head on in order to find some kind of resolution. In an ideal world we would have the courage to bring challenging issues up in a kind, loving and considered way, rather than simply acting or reacting from a hurt, angry, triggered or wounded place. However, sometimes feelings just rise up in us and demand release, which is the Aries way, and at least we are being honest, open, direct and real when we express what we are feeling, even if it doesn’t quite come out in the most refined, gentle or delicate manner!

During this particular Moon, we also have Chiron the Wounded Healer sitting right next to the Moon in Aries, which brings the potential for our wounds and insecurities being activated, and could make us more sensitive, reactive, easily hurt, defensive and emotional than we might usually be. However, this is such an opportunity for healing, even though it might feel a bit uncomfortable! We are called to be brave enough to actively confront painful memories and look at our unhelpful patterns, and to address any issues that are coming up for us so that we can work through them. It takes courage to show our wounded selves to others and to be vulnerable enough to express when we are hurt in a way that they can accept and understand. It takes courage to face ourselves and admit that we feel hurt, or rejected, or weak. It takes courage to bring uncomfortable issues out into the open.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 21° of a sign will be feeling the healing energy of Chiron the most acutely, especially in the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. This may bring feelings of rejection and our core wounds being activated, which could be painful and yet bring such potential for healing. Aries is a very brave energy, which helps us to look at our wounds without flinching and to do whatever is needed to work through whatever we are facing.

Interestingly, Mars, the ruler of Aries, is very present during this Moon, as it is forming a dynamic square aspect to the Sun, Moon and Chiron, a harmonious trine aspect to Neptune, while also working towards an opposition to Pluto. That’s a lot of Mars! We could be forced, in no uncertain terms, to confront our core wounds, and could find ourselves more easily triggered, with some strong emotions coming to the surface. Mars is in Cancer at the moment, which can bring up anger and outbursts of emotion that come from our wounded inner child and could seem quite irrational.

We may find ourselves at odds with others somehow, but the tension can push us to confront issues that we usually tend to shy away from. We have a chance here to practice asserting ourselves and expressing our anger and strong emotions in a healthy, constructive way, although that might not be very easy if our buttons are being pushed! Chiron in Aries encourages us to have the courage to simply be ourselves and to embrace all that we are, rather than doubting or bending ourselves out of shape to be something we are not in order to feel loved or accepted. Mars definitely brings the potential for heated emotions, hurt feelings and reactivity, but it also helps us to be brave and bring anything out into the open so that we can find healing and resolution. Better out than in!

Neptune is forming a flowing, harmonious trine aspect to both Venus and Mars, which helps to soften the fiery energy of this Full Moon. Neptune brings the potential for true acceptance, sensitivity to other’s feelings, heartfelt connection and the capacity for compassion and empathy towards one another, even while facing uncomfortable or challenging material. Venus is right at the end of Scorpio, calling for us to deepen our intimacy and trust, penetrating to the core of whatever we are dealing with. There is certainly a lot of potential for friction during this Moon, which can bring out our vulnerabilities and expose our tender underbellies, but this can ultimately bring us closer together and help us to understand each other better.

The connection between Neptune and Venus, which is exact on Wednesday, can bring a deeper, more loving connections and greater understanding and acceptance of the parts of each other that we might deem “ugly”, shameful, scary or unacceptable. It can help us to transcend egoic attachment and embrace a higher expression of love.  We are invited to connect on a deeper level and see beyond our façades, walls and protective layers to the core of our being. This doesn’t feel like an easy Moon, per se, as some challenging and hitherto repressed material could come out into the light, but what is revealed through the process could be tremendously healing and ultimately bring greater understanding, depth and intimacy to our relationships.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 29° of a sign, especially the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, will feel the tender, compassionate, dissolving, flowing energy of Neptune and Venus most strongly, not to mention that Pluto is also sitting at 29° Capricorn, having recently turned direct. We are having the last little foray into all things Capricorn before Pluto goes into Aquarius for good on 19 November, which calls for us to face any unhelpful karmic patterns or issues around power and control, purging unhealthy conditioned habits and patterns, and dismantling any decaying structures in our lives that simply no longer serve.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 25° Aries, is an intriguing one: “The possibility for man to gain experience at two levels of being” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The revelation of new potentialities. In some unspecified way the symbol is a guarantee that man can operate successfully at two levels of consciousness, if he has previously met the condition mentioned in the preceding symbol. “Be open. Be able and willing to shape your translucent mind on the form revealing spiritual fulfilment. And you will be able to experience life and power on inner as well as outer planes.” The implied message is one of faith. Man can only truly experience what he deeply believes he can experience. This symbol announces the possibility of a new step in evolution, but it is still only a possibility, a promise. The individual is truly ON PROBATION.”

This Moon certainly seems to be calling for us to be honest, open and brave! Full Moons always hold the potential for emotions riding high and for hitherto repressed material coming out into the light, but this one could be especially volatile! There is an invitation here for us to lay our cards out on the table and to have the courage to truly express all that we are and all that we are feeling, even if it feels uncomfortable and isn’t exactly “pretty”. Aries is the part of us that acts first and thinks later, and sometimes that can be a good thing, because at least it is real and is not filtered through the lens of what is “reasonable” or “acceptable”. This Moon has such amazing healing potential if we are brave enough to drop the protective walls of so-called decency and reveal the fullness of who we truly are, warts and all.

PISCES FULL MOON / SUPERMOON / LUNAR ECLIPSE - 18 September 2024

9/16/2024

Picture
Exact at 3.34am UK time (BST)

This is a powerful, tender-hearted Full Moon that invites us to truly let go and to surrender to the next chapter of our lives, even if the way is not yet clear. This Moon starts off Eclipse season, which is a powerfully energetic time that completes a six-month cycle that began in March this year. This Moon is also connected to the Lunar Eclipse 19 years ago, in September 2005, so it could help to think back to what was happening back then as this Moon could have an energetic resonance with that time in our lives. Lunar Eclipses are a time of release, renewal and completion, making way for a new chapter to begin. It is particularly poignant that this Full Moon is in Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, calling for us to fully surrender to the flow of life, letting go of control over outcomes, leaving the past behind and releasing whatever needs to fall away to make space for the new.

This is a particularly powerful Moon because Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, is also sitting right next to the Full Moon in Pisces. The message couldn’t be clearer – we are being called to allow faith and trust to guide us and to fully surrender to the flow of the river, allowing it to take us wherever we need to go next. We may have our own ideas about what we want or need, or where we want to go, and we might feel a bit scared, but as much as we might want to control outcomes and steer the boat in a certain direction, it is far easier if we simply let go, in full trust, and allow ourselves to be swept along by the universal tides. As such, we are encouraged to remain alert to any omens, signs and messages that can show us the way to go, and to recognise where the path seems blocked and difficult to navigate. It is amazing what can happen when we are following our hearts and fully in flow!

Neptune in Pisces can bring the potential for illusion and disillusionment, increased sensitivity, empathy, compassion, escapism, dissolving ego and transcendence. Neptune and Pisces remind us that we are all connected, and that the power of the collective cannot be underestimated. Neptune is the feeling of unity, euphoria and oneness that we experience when, for instance, we are all singing the same song in unison at a concert. Moments like that remind us of how we are all connected by an invisible thread, and how beautiful that is. At this important and powerful moment in history, when the way ahead is so unclear and humanity is in the process of such an important shift, it is important to tap into this collective consciousness and remember that we are not alone, and are part of something that is much, much bigger than our little fearful egos can possibly comprehend!

Uranus and Pluto are also helping us out during this Moon, bringing the potential for some profound shifts, transformation and soul growth. Uranus offers us some insightful realisations that can bring about clarity and understanding that could liberate us from old patterns and programming. Eclipses activate the Nodes of the Moon, which involve us stepping out of the safe, familiar territory of our comfort zone in order to embrace soul growth.

The North Node represents all that we yearn for and yet when we are actually presented with it can feel so scary that it takes some courage and faith to actually make the leap! It is so easy to be drawn back into old, familiar patterns. Uranus can help us to step out of our comfort zone, however, despite any resistance we may feel, waking us up to what needs to change and shift. Pluto nudges us to confront ourselves and deepest fears so that we can evolve and transform on a deep soul level.

Jupiter is also forming a challenging square aspect to the Sun and Moon, calling for us to let go of any ideas or beliefs that might be holding us back from moving forward. That may be a crisis of faith, whereby we find ourselves in our heads instead of our hearts, struggling to let go and trust that we are being guided in the right direction. Some big emotions could come up during this Moon, including feelings of fear and overwhelm, but ultimately we are being invited to feel and honour all of these feelings and nevertheless dive into the unknown with the inner knowing that we will be held, supported and guided where we need to go.

Indeed, with the Nodes of the Moon squaring Mars in Cancer during this Moon, we could find that some very strong feelings come up which could motivate us to make the change we need, or at the very least help us to see how our emotions help or hinder us from taking action. With Mars being highlighted by the Nodes, we are invited to recognise how we work with our anger, and whether we are able to assert ourselves in a healthy way, and whether we are feeling brave or scared about what lies ahead. Mars in Cancer can bring some irrational responses that come from childhood wounding, so it is important to be aware of how we respond to triggers during this time. This square will be exact on 15 of September but will still be strong during this Full Moon.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 6° of a sign, especially the cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, will feels the energy of the Nodes and Mars the most acutely, calling for us to find the courage to take that leap of faith and probably bringing some quite big solar plexus twinges, either through fear of the unknown or through responding to emotional triggers. It is important to watch any tendency to react from our hurt inner child!

Full Moons, by their very nature, tend to bring up any issues within our relationships, but with the Nodes in the Libra/Aries relationship axis and Venus being so heavily aspected, this Moon is especially so. Chiron the Wounded healer is sitting directly opposite Venus during this Moon, which could bring some pain or wounding within our relationships but could also bring about much needed healing. We could find that our sore spots are more easily activated, and that certain relationships with those close to us bring us face to face with our sensitivities, vulnerabilities, insecurities and core wounds. However, while this may not be very comfortable, it does bring opportunities for healing and greater intimacy and closeness if we are able to rise above pettiness and allow ourselves to open up and to be seen.

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon/Eclipse, at 26° Pisces, is an interesting one: “Watching the very thin moon crescent appearing at sunset, different people realise that the time has come to go ahead with their different projects”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “A keen appreciation of the value of individualised responses to any challenge of life. The rather obscure original notation for this zodiacal degree, “A new moon that divides its influences,” when translated into practical terms refers to the fact that, confronted with the opportunity to expand their energy along new lines, modern individuals will react according to their own personal characters. One basic cosmic-spiritual impulse will lead these varied personalities to take equally varied steps. In any society that glorifies individualism, everyone should therefore accept this fact and not try to compel other individuals to conform to a single pattern of response. This symbol stresses the essential nature of the cyclic process of actualisation of human potential, i.e. the emergence of the individual. This should lead to a realisation of the FALLACY OF TOTALITARIANISM; at times we can all act like despots, demanding that others react to any situation exactly as we do.”

Pisces and Neptune can help us to be more aware of how we are all connected, and yet this symbol reminds us that we all have our own unique path to walk, in our own unique way. Live and let live! This Moon certainly does seem to be encouraging us to release the past and let go of anything that might be holding us back from fully surrendering to the flow and to fully embrace whatever is waiting for us in the as yet unknown future. We may feel some resistance, overwhelm or fear as we are called to step out of our comfort zone, and we may have to let go of people, situations, old beliefs or patterns, which could be painful. However, as this next chapter awaits us, we are being called to really tap into our faith and trust that whatever lies around the next bend in the river of our life is what we have been waiting and yearning for, even if it also terrifies us! It is time to release the past to make way for the new.

We are invited to trust the Universe, trust the process, and most importantly trust ourselves. When we do this, instead of trying to force outcomes, we find that things fall into place more easily and naturally.

Much Love

AQUARIUS NEW MOON / YEAR OF THE WOOD DRAGON BEGINS - 9 February 2024

Picture
Exact at 10.59pm UK time (GMT)

This feels like an incredibly significant New Moon, with the potential for big shifts and surprises. It is also a Supermoon, which means that the Moon is closer to earth and will have a stronger impact on our minds, bodies, spirit and emotions. It is also the beginning of the Chinese year of the Wood Dragon! New Moons always bring the potential for shedding old weight and planting seeds for something new to come in, and this Moon is no exception! Aquarius is the sign of change, progression, innovation and questioning the status quo, so this Moon could help us to breathe fresh air into our lives and embrace a new perspective. This is the kind of Moon that could help us to recognise where we might be stuck in a rut and jolt us into a greater awareness of what needs to change and what needs to be released. Change is in the air!

With the Sun and Moon joining forces in eccentric, quirky, humanitarian Aquarius, we are called to think outside the box and look at our lives from a different angle. Aquarius is a very objective sign that helps us to detach, stand back and see ourselves with greater clarity and insight. It encourages us to question the rules and liberate ourselves from the layers of programming and conditioning that have built up since we were born, so that we can reveal our original, unique spark that is the true essence of who we are. Aquarius is the rebel, the revolutionary, the maverick, and so this Moon could bring out the part of us that questions authority, questions any rules that don’t make sense and questions what we are being told by those in authority. Aquarius helps us to see another way of doing things and isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd and be different.

Uranus, the planetary ruler of this Aquarius Moon, is forming a dynamic square to the Sun and Moon, which definitely spices things up a bit! Uranus is the planet of sudden wake up calls, shocks and curveballs that forces us out of stagnation and can bring massive insights, realisations, epiphanies and profound clarity. Expect the unexpected with this particular Moon! On both a personal and collective level, things can easily change in the blink of an eye, and Uranus reminds us that you never know what lies around the next corner. This is the planet that brings breakdowns that can then lead to breakthroughs. It clears away the cobwebs with a massive blast of fresh air. So often we know exactly what needs to change, but tend to resist facing the inevitable, not wanting to upset the apple cart and unsettle our lives. Uranus, however, isn’t afraid to upset the apple cart for the sake of positive change and growth.

Uranus is in Taurus, the sign that represents survival, the economy, material comforts and our values. There is the potential for some kind of breakdown of the financial system while Uranus is still in Taurus, which will be until 2026. However, as mentioned, breakdowns can lead to breakthroughs, and Uranus is an innovative, progressive planet that has the potential to bring much needed change to an antiquated system that is in very much need of an overhaul. Taurus is also the part of us that resists change, often because we don’t want to face the discomfort that it brings and because we fear the unknown.

This is the kind of Moon that can force us out of our comfort zone, but as we do so we have the potential to experience such a sense of freedom as we liberate ourselves from anything that has been weighing us down and holding us prisoner, including our conditioning. “To thine own self be true”, says Uranus. To be true to ourselves can feel very uncomfortable indeed, as it is often much easier to simply conform to others’ expectations of us, or the societal norm. This is the kind of Moon that could make things so intolerable that we simply have to make changes. Indeed, it can bring a sudden event that changes everything. It can also bring sudden insights that come out of thin air and change our perspective completely. And once we see with such clarity, there is no “unseeing”.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 19° of a sign, especially the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, will feel the liberating, enlivening and potentially shocking energy of Uranus the most acutely, although this Moon does hold the potential for some kind of collective shift. As Pluto has recently moved into Aquarius, which is Uranus’s sign, this links Pluto, the planet of transformation with Uranus, the planet of shifts, progression and change. It does seem inevitable that some kind of change is coming within the next couple of years, and we can only hope that it will be based on Aquarian values of equality, freedom, brotherhood/sisterhood, benefiting the “People” rather than the plutocracy.  We shall see.

Chiron the Wounded Healer is moving closer and closer to the North Node in Aries, exact on 19 February. It is not surprising that rumours of war grow stronger and stronger, as this is a fateful pairing in Aries, the sign that represents war and conflict. This brings up masculine energies to be healed, and brings up the question – does change, progress and conflict resolution have to result in violence and war? On a personal level, we are being called to address and heal any issues we may have around the masculine, including how we assert and stand up for ourselves and the way we handle our anger.  This is a powerful configuration that can help us to find the courage to face our core wounds and heal any issues around “I am”, the right to exist, our identity and the capacity for self-love. We are called to embrace all that we are, and to make ourselves a priority, although this could be difficult for some. Self-care is imperative during this time, because it helps us to deal with whatever else is occurring around us. As we each heal ourselves, we help to heal the world.

Uranus is also forming a harmonious, supportive trine aspect to Venus, the ruler of Taurus. Venus is the planet of love, relationship, self-worth and money, so Uranus could bring about a shift of perspective in all of these areas. It can breathe fresh air and excitement into our relationships and finances, and can also bring great clarity and insight, so that we can see more objectively what might need to change. This trine aspect is exact on 7 February but will still be strong during the New Moon.

Jupiter is also forming a dynamic square aspect to Mercury, exact on 10 February. We may feel that we have a lot to say during this Moon, as if we have something very important to communicate! People could be more opinionated than usual, as they feel the need to express their truth. There is the potential for jumping to conclusions before knowing the full picture. It is important to listen to people’s feedback and to be mindful of what comes out of our mouths. Those of us with personal planets and angles around 8° of a sign, especially the fixed signs, will feel this energy most strongly.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon is interesting, especially in the light of the other planetary energy surrounding this Moon, at 21° Aquarius: “A disappointed and disillusioned woman courageously faces a seemingly empty life”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The capacity to meet emotionally upsetting experiences in human relationships with strength of character and personal integrity. The man who manages vast and complex business enterprises most often reaches power and achieves success because of his ability to deal with crises and temporary reverses of fortune. At the emotional level we now see a “woman” confronted with sharp disappointment and forced to face the vanishing of cherished illusions, presumably in terms of a close personal relationship. She has to learn to manage such crises, which are really tests of inner strength and perhaps compassion. We all have within ourselves the power to learn through emotional crises. But like any other faculty, it needs development. This symbol urges us to develop RESILIENCE under adversity.” Hmm. Interesting indeed.

On top of all of this powerful energy, we have the beginning of the Year of the Wood Dragon! The last two Dragon years were 2000 and 2012, both notable and memorable years. The Dragon is a mythical creature, and they truly are dynamic, transforming forces of nature! A Dragon year brings the potential for transformation, passion, enterprise, creativity, innovation and problem solving. Dragon years often produce strong, powerful, charismatic, visionary leaders, so this year could certainly be a year to remember in that sense, when some of our leaders become stronger and more powerful, and some could fall. Dragons can have a very strong ego and know exactly who they are. The Wood element brings the potential for profound growth, building on what is already there, and regeneration. It is very interesting that the Dragon Year begins with such a potent New Moon that brings such potential for shocks, change and new vision. What a powerful start to a powerful year!

PISCES FULL MOON (SUPERMOON) - 31 August 2023

8/28/2023

Picture
Exact at 2.35am UK time (BST)

This is an incredibly potent Full Moon, in the very last degree of the zodiac and closer to earth than any other Moon this year! As such, it has the potential to have a greater impact on our mind, body, spirit and emotions. Pisces is the culmination of all the other signs and can help us to melt away anything that might be preventing us from developing a deeper connection to the divine, trusting that we are being guided where we need to go. It is important to pay attention to our dreams this week, as they could bring healing and greater understanding. There is also a sense that looking back into the past can bring profound healing. While this Full Moon can bring some overwhelming emotions, it can also help us to connect with one another in the spirit of compassion, kindness, acceptance and unconditional love. More importantly, it can help us to find compassion and acceptance for ourselves.

The Sun is now in Virgo, which can help us to contemplate what we might need to tweak in order to improve ourselves and our situations. Virgo season has that “Back to School” feeling, when we often feel the urge to develop new healthy routines so that we can feel better about ourselves. It is an ideal time to break unhealthy, sabotaging habits and replace them with healthy ones. Virgo is the part of us that can be quite critical of ourselves and others, so it is important not to beat ourselves up about our shortcomings and inadequacies, but rather to take the necessary practical steps to improve the situation. This Pisces Moon can help us to find compassion and a greater sense of acceptance for any shortcomings, reminding us that we are perfect in our imperfection, or imperfectly perfect!

This Full Moon certainly has the potential to bring to boiling point anything that has been building and simmering beneath the surface since the Leo New moon on 16 August, especially as it’s a Supermoon. The Sun and Moon are now in the healing axis, so this Moon could bring things up to be healed with tenderness, forgiveness and compassion. Virgo does like to pick things apart and analyse them, while this Pisces Moon could help us to find true acceptance of ourselves and anyone we may be having issues with at the moment. It is important to be aware that we can be our own worst enemy at times, beating ourselves up for things that we could easily forgive in someone else.

This Moon could be a good opportunity to resolve situations that may seem unresolvable and to find true understanding of where we may be at fault, as well as recognising the other person’s part in matters and recognising their flawed humanity with love and a greater sense of acceptance. None of us are perfect and we are all just doing the best we can with the tools we have been given in life!

Saturn is sitting right next to the Moon and opposite the Sun, helping us to see things as they really are, rather than as we would like them to be. The Sun and Saturn directly opposed each other on Sunday 27 August, which had the potential to make things feel a bit heavy and very “real”. Saturn is still a player in this Moon, but at least the energy is on the wane. However, Saturn does call for us to be a grown-up and to take responsibility for our part in whatever we are experiencing at the moment, and can bring some serious, realistic, sombre reflection on whatever we are facing.

It is important, however, to be kind to ourselves and not allow ourselves to feel overwhelmed by fear, guilt or anxiety, which are the more challenging manifestations of Saturn in Pisces. However, ultimately Saturn in the last sign of the zodiac can help us to clear karma and move forward with a lighter step. We are in a process of clearing the skeletons out of the proverbial closet, sifting away anything that isn’t serving us so that we can allow something more appropriate to take its place. Saturn in Pisces can bring endings, and endings can of course bring up sorrow and grief. However, the path is merely being cleared for a new chapter. When one door closes another opens.

Mercury is now well and truly retrograde in analytical, modest, humble, helpful and critical Virgo. Whenever Mercury goes backwards, we have a chance to go back over old ground and gain more understanding, or tweak things, or contemplate how we might have done things differently. This is a time for reflection, retrospection, reviewing, refining and revisiting. The important thing to be aware of with Mercury in Virgo is that we can easily analyse it all to death, picking it apart and leaving no stone unturned! It is also very easy to beat ourselves up about how we could have done better, focusing on our faults, inadequacies and imperfections. This can be helpful, to a degree, because it is important to do the inner work and self-enquiry, and to recognise the part we have played in whatever situation we now find ourselves in, so long as it doesn’t tip over into self-flagellation!

However, there are some very helpful aspects to Mercury, during this Moon, from Jupiter and Uranus. Jupiter trine Mercury can help us to see the bigger picture and not sweat the small stuff, which is very useful indeed during Virgo season! It also helps us to see things in a positive light, igniting our faith and optimism, enabling us to connect to our gut instinct and intuition. This aspect is exact on 4 September. The trine between Uranus and Mercury can help bring insight, giving us a chance to step back a bit and see things more objectively, from a different perspective. Uranus can bring epiphanies, “aha” moments, realisations and the capacity to come up with ingenious solutions. Sometimes it helps to detach, or step back a little so that we can gain clarity. This aspect was closest to exact on 23 August but is still very much in effect during this Moon.

Chiron the Wounded Healer is forming a more challenging inconjunct aspect to Mercury, which is exact at the time of the Full Moon. We could feel the urge to have some important conversations during this time that are honest, forthright, helpful and healing. We may be told some things, possibly going back over old ground, that are hard to hear, although ultimately it will all be for our greatest good. Indeed, we may be the one who is saying things that it is uncomfortable for the other person to hear. However, with the Moon in sensitive, compassionate Pisces, we have a chance to bring some thorny issues up in a gentle, loving, empathetic way, so that we are aware of each other’s feelings and are able to truly connect and see past one another’s walls.

Anyone with personal planets or angles around 19° of a sign will feel the effect of Chiron and Mercury most acutely, especially those in Aries and Virgo, as Chiron is in Aries and Mercury is in Virgo. We have a chance here to revisit the past and heal whatever may be unresolved there.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 8° Pisces, is: “A girl blowing a bugle”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “A call to participation in the service of the race, as an evolutionary crisis approaches. This symbolic picture presents another aspect of the emotional relationship between the individual and the collectivity of human beings. It can also be related to the old feminist movement or the present women’s liberation. In traditional symbolism the woman refers more specifically to the biological and psychic aspect of human life; she is seen primarily as the mother, and /or the intuitive or “psychic” type of person. A new race of human beings may well be slowly unfolding some of its potential of consciousness and fulfilment. The individual who envisions this evolutionary development “sounds the call.” He or she is both seer-herald and mutant. In that sense such a human being is both an individual true to his original nature and a dedicated person – dedicated to the future he or she holds in latency as does a seed in mutation. Tomorrow acts through today; it SUMMONS men to the rebirth”.

This is a powerful symbol! We are certainly moving into a new world, and this Moon could bring about some kind of clearing that helps us to move forward with a cleaner slate. Maybe some remaining debris still needs to be cleared away, talked about, dealt with and somehow purified. We are called to do the inner work necessary, clearing the chi and recognising what is good for us and what is simply no longer serving us. Virgo is very good at the art of discernment, which is so very useful! The Virgo Sun and Mercury could certainly help us to gain some clarity on what we need moving forward and what we need to let go of. And this Pisces Moon can certainly help us to actually let go, surrendering to a force larger than ourselves and allowing the flow of the river to take us wherever we need to go. It’s time to dive in and trust the current of life!

Much Love

AQUARIUS FULL MOON  SUPERMOON - 1 August 2023

7/29/2023

Picture
Exact at 7.31pm UK time (BST)

An Aquarius Full Moon always has the potential to be quite powerful, and this one is especially potent, as it’s a Supermoon! This means that the Moon is closer to the earth, bigger, brighter and has more of an impact on our mind, body, emotions and spirit. It is now Leo season, a time to listen to our hearts and do whatever brings us joy. However, we still have Pluto squaring the Nodes, albeit it is now starting to wane a bit. As such, there is more soul searching and shadow diving for us ahead, no doubt! Not to mention that Venus is now retrograde, calling us to look backwards and reflect upon our relationships, past and present. However, ultimately an Aquarius Moon has the potential to be quite exciting, enlivening and liberating, helping to get our Leo creative juices flowing!

The Sun is currently in playful, dramatic and creative Leo, sitting directly opposite the Moon in eccentric, humanitarian and freedom loving Aquarius. In an ideal world we would find a healthy balance between the energy of the two signs, rather than veering too far in one direction or the other. Too much Leo can mean that we seek validation, praise, attention and encouragement from outside of ourselves and could find it hard to see beyond our own perspective. Aquarius helps us to be more objective and detached, recognising that we are all special and unique and that there is a big world out there that doesn’t necessarily revolve around us. An Aquarius Full Moon can help us to gain more perspective, helping us to step back and see ourselves more clearly, which could be very useful indeed.

Too much Aquarius can put us too much in our heads and can make us feel like we are on the outside looking in. Leo invites us to drop into our hearts and to fully participate in life, shining our light brightly. Aquarius is the rebel in us, the part of us that can be somewhat contrary, but can see outside of the box and question the rules, especially the ones that don’t make any sense! This is the kind of Moon that can help us to liberate ourselves from old patterns, conditioning and to come back to who we truly are. Leo and Aquarius invite us to celebrate our unique self, get creative, have some fun and express ourselves, even parts of ourselves that we haven’t expressed before. There has been a lot of inner child work going on recently, which has been quite intense, so maybe now it’s time to let our inner child out to play!

Uranus, the ruler of this Aquarius Moon, is forming a challenging, dynamic square aspect to Retrograde Venus in Leo, which could be interesting! This square aspect will be exact on 9 August, but the energy is certainly building in strength during this Moon. Uranus is the Great Awakener and when it activates Venus can bring some wake up calls, revelations, shocks or curve balls in the realm of our relationships, finances and self-worth. We may find that we are jolted into greater awareness, setting us back on track if we have veered off it, and forcing us to be true to ourselves. It has the potential to bring a sudden ending to a relationship, but only if it is unhealthy, or has no place left to go or is simply not right for us anymore. On the other hand, Uranus could simply help us to liberate ourselves from any stuck, stagnant, unhealthy dynamics within the relationship, so that it frees both parties up to be who they really are. Uranus can break things down in order to create a breakthrough.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 22° of a sign, especially the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, will be feeling the liberating and potentially unsettling energy of Uranus most acutely right now. However, it certainly can bring a greater perspective and insight, while also helping us to release ourselves from our old programming around relating, opening us up to a more authentic way of being in relationship which allows us to be true to ourselves. Uranus is also in Taurus right now, which is the sign that rules survival and the economy, and Venus is the ruler of Taurus, so there could be some sudden shocks, wake up calls or curve balls relating to the financial system. There could also be some shifts around the digitisation of the economy, including cryptocurrency.

Venus is Retrograde in Leo from 23 July until 3 September, which could bring opportunities for dipping back into the past in order to better understand our present relationship dynamics. People could literally pop up from our past, which could be surprising and yet could help us to work through any unresolved dynamics so that we are free of them once and for all. So often, we are unconsciously holding onto sticky material from so long ago that is stuck in our energy system and tends to impact our current relationships. Possibly it is time to remember, look at it and clear it. With Pluto still square the Nodes right now it is an ideal time to do the inner work and go back into the dark recesses of our past and bring whatever is lurking there out into the light. It could be as far as childhood, or our teenage years, or our adult relationships that hold the buried treasure. Uranus’s influence in the coming days could help bring some much-needed epiphanies, remembering, insight and liberation from the past that binds us.

Venus Retrograde in Leo could call for us to reconnect with our hearts and to contemplate whether our current relationships are helping us to shine our light brightly or are dimming it. This could be a time for reconsidering our relationships and going back over any issues that may still be a sticking point or might be blocking the relationship from blossoming. We may need to reflect on what it is we really want and what is most important to us. We may need to reconnect with our joy, somehow, or rekindle romance. It is interesting that Venus is also the ruler of the Libra South Node, as the Nodes have recently switched signs. We are being called to recognise any unhealthy dynamics, including co-dependency or people pleasing, and to step into our inner Aries, which calls for a greater degree of self-love and helps us to recognise our own needs, stand up for ourselves and do what is right for us. With the South Node being in Libra right now, as well as Venus retrograde, there is definitely a feeling that going back into the past can bring gifts for our present relationships.

During this Full Moon we also have an almost exact opposition between Saturn and Mercury, which could bring some challenges around communication, but could also force us to get the nitty gritty, bare bones, facts of the matter. We could experience some fearful thoughts and may need to be wary of being judgemental or over critical of ourselves or others, and to be aware that Saturn in Pisces could make our imagination go into some rather dark places. However, we could also experience the scales of illusion being pulled away from our eyes, so that we are able to see things as they really are rather than how we would like them to be. This combo could bring some straight talking, although the Pisces influence should help us to come from a place of empathy, kindness and compassion. Those of us with personal planets or angles around 5° of a sign, especially the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, will feel the energy of this combination most acutely.

The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon, at 10° Aquarius, is: “A man who had for a time become the embodiment of a popular ideal is made to realise that as a person he is not this ideal”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The need to deal with human beings as persons, rather than as screens upon which one projects one’s dream and ideal. Here we have a final statement on the relationship between mental-spiritual vision and living reality, between persons and the ideal they appear to incarnate. Between the “great lover Image” and one’s need for love – a love his presence stimulated and aroused. The “star” on the movie screen is not the actual person. The star’s popularity fades away, the person remains. What has this episode of popularity actually done to the person? This is a question that can be applied to a great variety of circumstances. This symbol brings to our attention an issue that is basic and may confront us in various forms. Person versus archetype. This can mean a critical need for SELF-REVALUATION.”

This symbol is interesting, considering all of the planetary energy surrounding this Moon. We also have Neptune forming a nagging inconjunct to Venus, also exact on the day of this Full Moon, which brings in the themes of illusion/delusion/idealisation in relationship, putting people on pedestals and not seeing who they really are, glamour versus reality, and seeing our loved ones through the lens of our fantasy projections. It seems that Saturn and Mercury could bring a reality check, while the Uranus Venus square could bring some revelations and realisations that could offer a different perspective and force us to shed some layers of conditioning around our relationships.

It is important to be aware that the inner child in us could be quite prevalent right now, demanding attention! With Pluto square the Nodes, we are being called to be very honest with ourselves, as we currently have the opportunity to do some deep inner work that could really help us to take a giant step forward in our soul growth.  This Full Moon could certainly bring things to a head, bringing the emotions up and out, as Full Supermoons so often do! It also holds the potential for a big release, shifting us out of stagnation and liberating us from old patterns that simply don’t serve us anymore. Ultimately, an Aquarius Moon can be exciting, electrical, liberating and can help us to step back and see things from a more detached perspective, which could be very helpful indeed.

AQUARIUS NEW MOON / CHINESE NEW YEAR OF THE RABBIT - 21 January 2023

1/18/2023

Picture
Exact at 8.53pm UK time (GMT)

This is no ordinary New Moon, as it is also a Supermoon, which means that it will have a bigger impact on us, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It also heralds the beginning of the Yin Water Rabbit, which could feel like a welcome relief after the Yang Water Tiger year! We may feel the need to slow down and get some rest this year. Yin Water is softer and more flowing, and the Rabbit is known for being gentle, sensitive, tender, elegant and refined. That being said, Rabbits can sometimes be a bit fearful of predators, so while we are encouraged to be creative this year, we could feel a little stuck at times, as we struggle to find the courage to put plans into action. However, Rabbits do intuitively know how to get ahead in the world and can be quite quick and alert.

This does feel like a very potent and energised New Moon, and Aquarius asks us to contemplate our hopes, dreams and visions for a better future, setting positive intentions that come from our heart. The Aquarius part of us truly believes in community in the truest sense of the word, and genuinely wants to make this world a better place for everyone. An Aquarian Motto could be “All for one and one for all!” Aquarius is also the part of us that questions the rules and is willing and able to stand up to authority if needs be. As such, Aquarius season, which begins with the New Moon, can bring the activist, rebel and revolutionary out in us, bringing the potential for more uprisings, marches, protests and revolutions.

There is an unpredictable, electrical energy to Aquarius, which is quite a contrast to the more cautious, realistic, disciplined and responsible energy of Capricorn season. Aquarius is the part of us that is a good friend and likes to gather in groups with like-minded people. Our relationship with our friends is slightly more detached, less intimate than with our lovers and family members, and so we are able to see each other more clearly, giving our objective feedback when our friends are in need of advice or support. The closer we get to someone, the harder it is to be objective! Aquarius is a friendly yet slightly cool and aloof kind of energy – friendly but not too familiar.

This could be a good Moon for taking a step back from whatever we are going through and seeing things from a different perspective, which could help bring some insight, understanding and clarity. Indeed, we could experience some kind of shift that brings much needed change, setting us back on the right path. Aquarius and its planetary ruler, Uranus, are the kind of energy that shakes things up somewhat, dusting off the cobwebs and helping us get out of whatever safe, secure but stagnant rut we may have inadvertently fallen into. Change can be a scary thing to contemplate, so we tend to put it off until things have become so intolerable that we have no choice in the matter. This could be a very good Moon to instigate healthy and positive change, rather than waiting for something to come along and force it on us.

Luckily, we have Mars and Jupiter forming supportive and helpful aspects to the Sun and Moon, which could really help us to find the courage we need to either take a stand or initiate change. Jupiter in Aries is such brave and enthusiastic energy, helping us to feel the fear and do it anyway! Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion, while Aries is the pioneer and brave warrior, so this Moon could help us to have the courage, confidence, faith and motivation to move past obstacles, rolling any boulders out of our way with ease! Jupiter will be exactly sextile the Sun in the early hours of Wednesday 25 January, so the energy will be building in strength during this Moon.

Mars in Gemini is also forming a helpful trine aspect to the Sun and Moon, although it is not as strong because it won’t be exactly trine the Sun until 30 January. However, it is still significant and could help us to make decisions and to have the courage to act on whatever we decide. Gemini is the sign of the mind and communication, so Mars can help us to say what needs to be said and to confront some thorny or challenging material. Mars helps us to not waver once we have decided upon a course of action. As Mars approaches the trine with the Sun in the next week or so, we could feel a much-needed boost of courage, motivation and energy.

Interestingly enough, there is a supportive trine aspect between Uranus and Mercury that is starting to build during this Moon, which is also exact on 30 January. This could help us to think outside of the box and see things from a different perspective. It can open our minds to new information and help us to come up with ingenious solutions to anything we may be facing. It can help us to change our minds, bringing new insight, epiphanies and even an “aha” moment or two! Mercury is now direct, having been retrograde for three weeks, and Uranus turns direct on 23 January, so there is a forward moving energy around, especially as all the planets will now be direct!

Anyone with personal planets or angles around 14/15° of a sign will be feeling the liberating, exciting, changing energy of Uranus most acutely, especially those in the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Those with planets and angles around 1° of a sign, especially the fixed signs, will feel the full impact of this Aquarius Moon.

Pluto and the Sun are joining forces in Capricorn on Wednesday 18 January, a couple of days before the New Moon.  Anyone with personal planets or angles around 28° of a sign, especially the cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn could feel this powerful, transforming and potentially empowering energy the strongest. Power and transformation are the theme here, as well as potentially having to face something we would rather not have to deal with. Pluto will still be very close to the Sun and Moon during this New Moon, although they will have moved into Aquarius, while Pluto remains at 28° Capricorn.

The Sabian Symbol for this Moon, at 2° Aquarius, is a powerful one indeed – “The unexpected thunderstorm”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The need to develop the inner security which will enable us to meet unexpected crisis. The symbol itself – “An unexpected thunderstorm” – could be given a very positive meaning in an arid environment, but the emphasis on “unexpected” tends to accent the sudden dangerous character of the event. Such a thunderstorm in a region of dry hills can cause a devastating flood. At any rate, it refers to an event for which one is not prepared – a menace to men’s works. This scene stresses the fact that nature may reduce to impermanence the seemingly most permanent endeavours and constructive activities of men. Under a downpour of rain, adobe brick can return to mud. All human institutions and their achievements can be washed away, even in their day of great glory. “Dust you were, dust you must become.” This is NATURE’S CHALLENGE.”

Indeed, Aquarius does bring the potential for sudden shocks and surprises that bring change. And Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, is currently in Taurus, a sign that represents the natural world, the economy and our safety and security in a physical and financial sense. As such, we could receive some surprises in this area of our lives. However, Aquarius and Uranus also call for us to come up with solutions and can be very innovative. Sometimes we need a bit of a shock to jolt us out of apathy and stagnation. This Moon does seem to be providing us with the faith, courage and motivation to initiate change, to stand up for what we believe in and to take a step towards creating the kind of world we would be happy living in. It’s up to us to make the most of it.

CAPRICORN NEW MOON - 23 December 2022

Exact at 10.16am UK time (GMT)

This is a potent New Moon, as it is also a Supermoon, which means that it could have an above average impact on our minds, bodies, emotions and spirits. New Moons tend to set the tone for the month ahead and it can be helpful to contemplate what we might want to leave behind in the dark of the Moon and what we might want to cultivate more of moving forward. This particular Moon is in Capricorn, a sign that likes to set long term goals and work slowly and steadily towards them. As such, it could be good to contemplate what those goals and aspirations are exactly and think about what we would like to achieve in 2023. What would we like to let go of that is no longer serving us? What kind of realistic plans can we make to make our lives better moving forward? What is our greatest wish?

The Capricorn part of us is a realist and a pragmatist. It is the part of us that likes to make plans and set goals for ourselves, and then slowly but steadily work towards making those goals a reality. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, Cronus, Father Time, and so it brings the gift of patience and waiting until the time is right to make things happen. It also brings the discipline needed to apply ourselves to whatever task we have set ourselves. Capricorn also teaches us lessons about responsibility. Do we tend to shy away from responsibility, or do we often find ourselves carrying too much on our shoulders? Where in our lives are we shouldering a burden that has become too heavy? Are we able to share the load somehow, or admit that we are struggling and ask for help? Can we delegate some of our duties?

Capricorn also calls for us to take responsibility for ourselves and to grow up, acting from a place of maturity. It is easy to blame others for whatever happens to us, but Capricorn reminds us that we are always in control of how we respond, react and act, and are ultimately responsible for ourselves. Capricorn is the part of us that strives to be successful and isn’t afraid to take on our authority and put ourselves out there. This Moon could bring into focus what success means to us. What does it mean to be a successful human being? What might need to change and what work do we need to do on ourselves in order for us to be happy, healthy and grounded in the world? How do we hold ourselves back from achieving our goals?  Are we afraid of failure, or are we more afraid of success? What, when we are honest with ourselves, are our heartfelt aspirations for ourselves?

Jupiter moves back into Aries on 20 December and will remain there until 16 May 2023. Jupiter is also very present during this Moon, as it is forming a dynamic square aspect to the Sun and Moon. Aries is the sign of “I am”, so this could be a time of considerable self-growth and self-improvement. How can we expand our sense of self and take care of our needs so that we are better able to go out into the world and be a better human being? We could find ourselves raring at the bit, pushing ourselves out there, initiating new projects and challenging ourselves to grow and move past any limitations. Jupiter can also magnify any feelings of anger that we may feel, however, and anger can be quite destructive if projected outward and self-destructive if swallowed and turned inwards. On the other hand, righteous anger can be very helpful, especially if it incites action.

Jupiter in Aries can really help us to find the self-confidence and courage to try new things, bringing out our pioneering spirit, although it can also mean that we overextend ourselves or think that we are better or capable of more than we actually are. Our Aries self may feel very enthusiastic and confident and want to jump straight in, while our Capricorn self asks us to slow down a bit, to be a bit sensible and practice a bit more caution. However, the Capricorn part of us can sometimes feel quite fearful, so a bit of courage and/or righteous anger could be helpful! This square from Jupiter does feel like it could be a good boost of energy to help us to come up with some ways to improve ourselves and our lives.

Venus and Mercury are also in Capricorn now, so the energy has well and truly shifted from enthusiastic Sagittarius to grounded, earthy, cautious Capricorn. Mercury is getting ready to go retrograde in Capricorn from 30 December until 18 January. Capricorn is quite a deep thinking, reflective and introspective sign, so this retrograde period could help us to go back over ground we have already covered in the past month and review and reflect in a retrospective manner.Sometimes there are things we may have missed the first time around, and this retrograde period could allow us to see them or talk them over. We might rehash old plans or ideas and tweak them so that they work better.

Mercury in Capricorn can be quite thorough, helping us to see the bare bones of whatever issue our minds are mulling over. However, it can also send our minds into some rather dark or bleak places, so it is important not to dwell on feelings of guilt, regret or self-judgement. People or memories from the past could pop up for us to tie up loose ends or complete unfinished business and could also bring up old grief to honour and release. Looking back can sometimes help us to move forward.

Chiron the Wounded Healer, on the other hand, is getting ready to turn direct on 24 December, having been retrograde since July. When planets are stationed ready to go retrograde or direct, their energy feels strongest, as will be the case when Mercury is getting ready to go retrograde around the 30th! In the case of Chiron, this brings the potential for some amazing healing to occur over the Christmas period, although our sore spots could also be triggered! It is quite possible that people could say things that are somewhat hurtful but ultimately healing, as Mars, the ruler of Aries, is currently retrograde in Gemini, the sign of communication. This could help us to bring up any issues or anger from the past that need talking about and resolving because they have been festering for too long.

Chiron in Aries doesn’t exactly have the gentlest bedside manner, but it is direct and honest, bringing up material that needs to be faced and giving us the courage to confront and work on ourselves. It does bring the potential for people being a bit over-sensitive and reactionary but could also help us to bring up any thorny issues that need to be addressed for healing to occur. Anyone with personal planets or angles around 11° of a sign will feel the energy of Chiron most acutely, especially the cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Uranus is helping out during this Moon, forming a supportive trine to Venus, the planet of relationships, exact on 22 December. This could bring some excitement into our social lives, livening things up and helping us to step out of our comfort zone. Uranus can help us to switch up the way we relate to one another, liberating ourselves from unhealthy patterns of relating and breathing new life into our relationships. If we have been stuck in a rut in our relationships, with things becoming a bit stale, this energy could help us to add some much-needed spice and shake things up a little bit. This combination could be quite fun, calling for us to expect the unexpected! Those of us with personal planets or angles around 15° of a sign will feel the liberating, unpredictable, enlivening energy of Uranus most acutely, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 2° Capricorn, is: “Three rose windows in a Gothic church, one damaged by war”, which Dane Rudyar describes as: ”The necessary realisation by any individual making a violent use of collective power that it will lead to the inevitable destruction of some of the values ensuring group-integration. It seems obvious that the interpretation of this symbol should refer to the disruptive consequences of war. A “rose window” is not absolutely essential to a cathedral, yet it symbolises that through which the “light of the Spirit” enters into the edifice. Man’s soul is said to be three-fold. Which part of man’s inner trinity of principles tends to be destroyed by the use of violence? Evidently the principle of love and compassion.”

This seems a good time to remind ourselves that Neptune is still in Pisces, calling for kindness, compassion, unity and an awareness that we are all ultimately connected, even though we may sometimes feel alone. The Chiron in Aries energy may be strong during this Moon, and some people may act or react in anger, but this may simply be because they are scared, hurt or in pain. This can be a difficult time of year for many, and this year has been especially challenging, so it is very important to be mindful of this and keep our hearts open to one another, even if others are acting in ways that we do not understand. This New Moon is a powerful one, when we have a chance to turn inward and set some positive and realistic intentions for the year ahead, while leaving anything that no longer serves us behind, in the dark of the Moon. What, when it comes down to the bare bones of the matter, is our greatest wish for this next year?

AQUARIUS FULL MOON/SUPERMOON - 12 August 2022

Exact at 2.35am UK time (BST)

This is an incredibly potent Full Moon with the potential to bring considerable shifts and powerful changes into our lives. It is the last supermoon of the year, which always has a greater impact on our mind, body, spirit and emotions than your average Full Moon. Not only that, but Uranus, the ruler of the Aquarius Moon, is forming a dynamic square to the Sun and Moon, intensifying the unpredictable, revolutionary and liberating energy of this Moon. It we have been stuck in a rut or some kind of holding pattern then this Moon could jolt us into awareness, setting us back onto the right path, freeing us from unhealthy, unhelpful patterns and releasing us from any conditioning that simply no longer serves us. Sometimes we need a bit of a shock to create the internal or external change that is needed.

The Sun remains in playful, creative, enthusiastic and dramatic Leo, the part of us that likes to feel special and thrives on a bit of validation, recognition and encouragement. Leo is a sign that encourages us to follow our hearts and do whatever brings us our greatest joy. Directly opposite the Leo Sun is the Moon in eccentric, humanitarian, non-conformist and friendly Aquarius, the part of us that sometimes feels a bit like an outsider and has the capacity to question the rules and consensus reality. Aquarius is a sign that encourages us to take a step back and look at ourselves and life from a different perspective, so that we can be more objective. The Leo part of us tends to be more subjective, so it can help to step out of a more “self”centred reality and see things from a different perspective. However, Leo can also help the Aquarius part of ourselves to step into the limelight and fully participate in life instead of standing on the sidelines looking in.

Aquarius is the part of us that questions authority and the rules and structures that society has put in place to keep some kind of control over the population. It is the part of us that seeks to individuate, becoming the unique being that we truly are rather than the version of ourselves that our parents and teachers molded us into. This Moon definitely has the potential to bring some kind of shift of awareness and to help us to get back into the path that is more true to who we really are. It is so easy to deviate from the path, doing whatever brings a sense of comfort, security and safety, while deep inside we know that it is not quite right for us on some level. Aquarius doesn’t allow us to simply conform or “settle”, but reminds us that we must be true to ourselves and forge our own unique path. It can also help us to connect with like-minded people who have a similar vision of what could be and how that might be achieved.

With Uranus and the Nodes of the Moon squaring the Sun and Moon, this is a fateful Full Moon that could bring about some shocks and surprises that give us a huge amount of insight and objective awareness, helping us to step out of the comfort zone and grow on a soul level. This Moon could bring out our more non-conformist, revolutionary tendencies and with Mars in on the act there could potentially be uprisings and unrest as we are given more insight into any unjust or unfair practice by those in authority. Uranus has the power to help us to “wake up” and look beyond the prevailing narrative and see things more clearly, and with Mars involved this has the potential to bring up anger! However, anger used constructively can really make things happen as we find ways to right wrongs and create change.

With Uranus, Mars and the North Node all in Taurus, the sign of survival, the cause for unrest may well revolve around the economy, our finances and the capacity to sustain ourselves. When people are struggling to survive they rise up and protest! However, while Uranus can bring about rebellion and revolution, it can also bring innovation and ingenious solutions. Necessity is the mother of invention, and so we may well find ourselves thinking outside of the box and coming up with some alternative and unique solutions to any problems we might be facing. Aquarius is the sign of the People and it is amazing what can be achieved when we come together and fight for a common cause.

Saturn is also sitting right next to the Aquarius Moon, bringing the Uranus/Saturn square back into focus. The energy of the square, which was so prevalent last year, will be building in intensity until the beginning of October. On a personal level this could help us to break through any rigid patterns and conditioning that hold us prisoner. We may experience an internal battle between the part of us that feels fear and a need to maintain a sense of control and the part of us that seeks to be free and make change, challenging the status quo.

On a collective level we could experience the continued dismantling of the structures and people rising up against governmental authority. Saturn in Aquarius could also bring greater control through the use of technology and fear tactics around money and survival that have a huge impact on the way we behave and interact with money. Fear is a powerful tool for control, especially when it revolves around survival. When we fall into fear we can literally block the flow of energy and abundance. It is very important that we do whatever we can to keep our vibration high and not tune into the lower vibration of fear. Easier said than done sometimes, however! It will certainly be interesting to see what happens between now and the beginning of October, as the planet of the “People”, awakening and revolution comes up against the planet of authority, structure and control.

Anyone with personal planets around 18° of a sign will be feeling the liberating, unsettling, revolutionary urge for freedom that Uranus can bring, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Uranus can make us want to bust out of whatever cage we have created for ourselves and can liberate us from old, outworn programming that is holding us back from feeling free. It can be very unsettling and changeable, however, which could make us feel quite uneasy. Ultimately it has the potential to help us align with our one unique, authentic nature and to be utterly true to who we really are, even if this comes to a shock to ourselves and others!

Pluto is forming a supportive trine to Mars during this Moon, which could give us quite an energetic boost that helps us to find the courage to overcome some big obstacles. Pluto is the planet of power, transformation, the subconscious and the soul, and in aspect to the Mars, the planet of action, assertion and motivation, we could find that we are brave enough to peer into the shadows and bring out into the open some material that we may usually find it too hard to face. This feels like it complements the revolutionary energy of this Moon, helping us to find the energy and courage to make the change happen and to recognise and transcend our own psychological blocks. A considerable amount of soul growth is possible during this Moon, that’s for sure!

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 20° Aquarius, is a rather special one: “A large white dove bearing a message” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The answer of spiritual agencies to thorough, sustained and victorious individual efforts. The individual who has gone courageously and with indomitable spirit through his crucial crisis receives, as it were, a deep spiritual blessing from the Soul-realm: “Mission accomplished. Peace be with you.” And in this blessing a secret prophecy of what is yet to come may be seen by the perspicacious and spiritually sensitive mind of the recipient. Every real spiritual step a man takes in his development is the result of a victory over forces of inertia or destruction. The Divine is totally “present” in the heart of all true victories. What the “message” is depends on the particular situation, but the white dove always signifies peace; at the very heart of this peace is the CERTIFICATION of individual worth and victory”.

This symbol certainly brings a feeling of hope! This Moon seems to be asking us to be open to change and to be true to ourselves, doing the necessary inner work so that inner and outer shifts are possible. Yes, there is the potential for unrest and questioning those in authority, but there is also the potential for profound insight that can change our lives for the better. Uranus and Aquarius seek to liberate us from whatever prison we have constructed for ourselves and to recognise that we hold the key - all is takes is a shift of perspective. Freedom is a state of mind and there are always solutions if we are open to them. The most important work we have at the moment is to avoid falling into fear, as it really does block the flow of love, abundance and energy. Whatever change occurs during this time, however unsettling or upsetting it may be, can ultimately help us to realign and reconnect to our true path. To thine own self be true.

Much Love

I love writing about the Moon and the effect it has on us all, both collectively and personally. We all look at the same Moon and feel her energy, albeit in different ways. It reminds us that we are not alone and there is something very comforting about that!
