This Full Moon brings the theme of health and healing into focus, with the Sun now in sensitive, compassionate and imaginative Pisces, sitting directly opposite the Moon in humble, analytical and health-conscious Virgo. Indeed, there is a huge emphasis on our emotional and physical health, as the Virgo Moon is also the focus of a Yod pattern which is also known as a “Finger of God”. We often have issues within our physical body that are reflective of emotional or spiritual wounding from the past that may still be unresolved or unhealed. Virgo helps us to be more aware of our old wounds, flaws and imperfections and to contemplate what we might need to do to improve our situation, such as adjusting our emotional and physical “diet”, exercise, mindfulness, inner work and healthy routines. Pisces, however, is the part of us that helps us to truly accept and forgive ourselves and others and find compassion for the parts of ourselves that are not perfect. The build up to this Moon could create conditions whereby we have no choice but to face our wounds and tender spots, as we are invited to do some inner work in order to free ourselves of old, stuck energy that is preventing us from healing and moving forward.
Virgo helps us to understand the mind/body connection, inviting us to look at our health in a more “wholistic” way that does not involve simply taking a pill to mask the symptom, but rather seeks to discover the emotional and spiritual root of whatever ails us. Virgo is adept at the art of discernment, encouraging us to be mindful of who we spend time with, how we spend our time and what we put into our body. Pisces invites us to turn inward and meditate, and to feel into the energy behind whatever we are experiencing. It is helpful to tune into whatever the problem is and ask our body to give us messages that will help us to understand where the pain is coming from. This Moon certainly has the potential to bring things to a head in terms of our mental, emotional and spiritual health, but crises are very helpful sometimes to help us realise what is out of alignment so that we can take steps to heal and improve ourselves or better our situation.
There is also the possibility that the Pisces energy could take us into overwhelm or victim/martyr mode, while the Virgo energy could bring anxiety and worry that prevents us from being able to think properly and make the necessary adjustments. Indeed, we may just want to hide under the bed or numb out somehow! However, there is also the potential for profound healing and the capacity to be of service to one another in the spirit of unconditional love and a genuine desire to help. While the Virgo part of ourselves can be quite nit-picky and critical, it does so with a genuine desire to help us to see what we might need in order to heal or improve ourselves. While it is hard to receive constructive criticism or hear what is out of alignment or “wrong” with us, if we can receive it with sincere humility and not get over-sensitive or defensive then we will derive the greatest benefit from it. Easier said than done sometimes, as we can so easily read it as judgement and an attack on our ego! However, Pisces is the part of us that seeks to dissolve any barriers that might be preventing us from truly connecting to spirit, and that includes our egos!
Saturn and Chiron are at the other end of this Yod or Finger of God configuration, putting considerable pressure on this Virgo Moon! On the one hand this could symbolise the difference between the Saturnian authoritarian, conventional, controlling way of dealing with the crisis we are currently facing versus a more natural and holistic approach to our emotional, spiritual and physical health through diet and healthy living. With Saturn in Aquarius, this Yod could also bring a greater awareness of the effect that the governmental control over our liberties and livelihoods, the isolation and the overuse of technology is currently having on our mental, spiritual and emotional health. This crisis could be peaking as the Moon becomes full. On yet another level we may be forced to look at our own wounds, unresolved issues and sensitive areas in a very realistic way, without the rose-tinted spectacles on. It is important not to judge ourselves or succumb to guilt or shame and beat ourselves up about our past mistakes that have led us to the wounds we bear. Similarly, we are encouraged not to judge other people on their decisions and beliefs.
The resolution to this Yod is the Sun in Pisces, which invites us to tend to our spiritual connection and approach ourselves and others in the spirit of kindness, unconditional love and compassion. It reminds us to breathe and practice being truly in the present, rather than beating ourselves up about the past or projecting our fears into the future. Pisces helps us to surrender to what is and find greater acceptance of ourselves and others, reminding us that ultimately we all want the same thing, despite our seeming differences and sense of separation. The higher vibration of Pisces brings greater sensitivity and empathy for others and the capacity to drop our walls and judgments and truly connect with one another in the spirit of love, understanding and unity.
Pisces doesn’t believe in boundaries or barriers and recognises that ultimately we all come from the same melting pot and will return there again. We are invited to drop the blame and shame and to extend our love to ourselves and one another, with the awareness that there is not one person in this world right now that is not going through something on one level or another. In the words of a meme I saw recently, we may all be in the same storm but we are not all in the same boat. Be kind. We never know what someone else is going through that they are not telling us.
It helps that Venus has recently moved into Pisces, helping us to relate to one another with greater compassion and sensitivity. Venus will be in Pisces until the Equinox on 21 March, bringing the potential for greater acceptance of others and the capacity for true forgiveness and kindness towards ourselves and one another. This is very welcome indeed, helping us to truly connect with one another and recognise our similarities rather than focusing on any differences we may have. However, Pisces is not the best at boundaries, so we may experience issues in that area, not to mention needing to discern when to help and when to stand back, who is good for us and who it may be best to keep away from for our greatest good. Venus in Pisces can tend to see the best in everyone and fail to recognise their shortcomings, which is a beautiful quality but can also get us into trouble when we are so busy relating to someone’s divinity that we are completely blindsided by their humanity!
The Saturn Uranus square is now on the wane until the next time the two planets come up against each other, which is in June, but the energy of the square could very much be brought into focus during this Full Moon. While Saturn is challenging the Moon, Uranus is forming a harmonious trine aspect to both the Sun and Moon, helping us to create positive change in our lives and to step outside of the status quo. There is a sense that we could somehow “wake up” and see things from a different perspective, possibly gaining greater insight and even having some surprising epiphanies. Uranus is challenging the structure, authority and control of Saturn, potentially breaking down our view of reality and offering a different perspective on the world and the situation we are currently facing. While Saturn represents authoritarian control and the way we have been conditioned to behave and respond, Uranus is the maverick planet that releases us from any unhealthy or inappropriate programming and liberates us from consensus reality and authoritarian control. There is definitely a sense that the Saturnian structures of our lives will be broken down over the course of this year, which could be quite unsettling but is also quite exciting and even liberating.
The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon, at 9° Virgo feels like it expresses the energy of the Saturn/Uranus square somewhat: “An expressionist painter at work”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “ The urge to express one’s individualised sense of value regardless of tradition. The individual is seen reacting against cultural standards and stereotyped ways of interpreting his perceptions. This is a statement of uncompromising self-reliance, which may even imply a kind of defiance and a challenge to society. The mind is seeking to discover the character of the basic and true foundation of individual selfhood, the AUM tone (or logos) of individual being. In the process, however, what is expressed is usually the reflection of a deep catharsis with emotionally charged and often tragic overtones.” There is a sense of rebellion to this symbol, as if we are being asked to look at things in a different light. This is a time to get creative and envision a world we want to bring into being, despite the potential reality that we appear to currently be facing.
This Moon surely does feel like it could bring some uncomfortable material up to the surface, but could also be profoundly healing. Virgo does have a propensity to make us focus on our flaws, mistakes, inadequacies and shortcomings, creating some kind of healing crisis that helps us to recognise what needs to change in our lives and what we still need to heal or let go of. However, it definitely helps to harness the energy of Pisces and turn inward so that we can hear the whisper of our soul telling us what we need. This Moon reminds us to be kind to ourselves and to others, and to find a greater sense of acceptance for all that we are, warts and all. While we may experience feelings of anxiety and overwhelm as the Moon comes to fruition, we are invited to simply breathe deeply and bring ourselves into the present moment, for that is the only place that we can truly find peace.
