This is a powerful New Moon as it is also a Supermoon, which means that the Moon is closer than your average New Moon so it will have a stronger effect on our mind, body, emotions and spirits. There are no major aspects to the Sun and Moon, so the energy of the Gemini is fairly undiluted in nature, aside from a few aspects that the other planets are making with each other. We have now moved from Taurus into Gemini, and while Taurus is quite yin in nature, which involved us developing an inner relationship with ourselves, Gemini is yang, so now we expand outward and engage with the world. Gemini is an adaptable, versatile and insatiably curious sign which likes to collect as much information as possible and pass it on, much like a butterfly flitting from flower to flower. There is a light hearted, youthful quality to this sign, who likes to have his finger in as many pies as possible! As such, during Gemini season the tempo could increase as ideas come thick and fast and communication with others increases. We may be bombarded with information, propaganda, ideas and opinions and could also be forced to examine our attitudes and the way our thought processes impact on our reality.
Our thoughts hold energy, and while affirmations and looking on the bright side can help bring a positive outcome, negative thinking can bring the opposite. We get what we focus on, and if we are focusing on the things that we are not happy about, or being gloomy or pessimistic about what is possible for us, then we will bring that into our lives. Thus, it is important to be mindful of our mental attitude and thought processes during this New Moon, and to come up with some positive, heartfelt intentions for what we want for ourselves in order to blossom and grow. I remember when I first became aware of the power of the spoken word, many years back, when a friend said “Be careful you don’t get a cold!” and the very next day I got a cold! The power of suggestion! Conversely, I have a friend who said at the beginning of this year “This is my year!” and it certainly does seem to be her year, as opportunities abound are coming into her life and she is ready for every one of them! She made an emphatic, heartfelt decision that it would be so, and really believed it, and so it is! Gemini also rules the media, so we could find ourselves bombarded with information and people’s opinions during this time and find it hard to separate fact from fiction. Again, we have the choice what we take in and accept and what we reject.
Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, and he is in patient, persevering Taurus at the moment, which invites us to slow down and smell the roses rather than rushing ahead too much. Mercury in Taurus like to take his time and “chew the cud” before making up his mind about anything. Communication could be frustratingly slow or ponderous during this time, so we may have to exercise considerable patience. The Taurus energy could mean we could experience ourselves or others being a bit fixed or stubborn in our mental attitude or opinions and finding it hard to change our minds or the minds of others. However, any ideas or thoughts we have during this time do have the chance of materialising, as Taurus is apt to take and idea and make it happen, taking it through to its conclusion. In short, Mercury in Taurus can make our thoughts and ideas manifest in reality. All the more reason to make sure that our thoughts are positive in nature! The Sabian symbol for Mercury, at 11° Taurus is “A woman watering flowers in her garden”, which again gives the message that anything we focus or lavish our attention on has the power to blossom and grow.
Mercury is forming a nagging aspect to Jupiter during this Moon, which could mean that we are confronted with some rather strong beliefs, philosophies, theories and opinions and may have to watch out for people preaching and forcing ideas down our throats. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, so we might be a bit overwhelmed by the amount of ideas, projects and activity we have to deal with during this time. Neptune is forming a positive aspect to Mercury, which could heighten our imagination and intuitive faculties, helping us to visualise what we would want for ourselves and the world. We might want to make sure that we focus on the positive, however, because our imaginations are just as capable of coming up with all sorts of fearful, paranoid, grim outcomes, especially in the current climate! In the same token it is important to remain grounded in reality and not fall prey to wishful thinking. Venus is also forming a challenging aspect to Pluto during this Moon, which could bring some emotional truths out into the open within our intimate relationships, causing us to feel a bit vulnerable and exposed. This combination also has the potential to bring our shadows out to play in the form of power play, jealousy, control, manipulation or trust issues.
On a deeper level, the Nodes of the Moon, which represent our soul’s destiny, have recently moved from Virgo and Pisces into Leo and Aquarius, signifying a significant shift in focus. The South Node, which represents where we are coming from and tendencies to leave behind, is in eccentric, detached, rebellious Aquarius, while the North Node, which represents tendencies we need to develop in order to grow and evolve, is in expressive, playful, passionate and creative Leo. While Aquarius tends to stay outside of the mainstream and rebel against authority, which can lead to feeling a bit like an outsider, Leo invites us to jump right in to the middle of things and fully participate in life. Aquarius comes up with visions for a better future, while Leo invites us to take these visions and actually create the life we want to live, becoming the director of our own play and using our will to make our hopes and wishes come true. We are being urged to allow ourselves to truly shine and follow what brings us our greatest joy. Indeed, Leo asks that we follow our heart, not our head, and be brave enough to stand out from the crowd and make a difference. The Nodes will be in Leo and Aquarius until November 2018.
The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 5° Gemini, is “A revolutionary magazine asking for action”. Dane Rudyar describes this as “The explosive tendency of repressed feelings and root emotions” and “What is rigidly bound in form and convention tends to explode into formlessness. It may do so violently if socially oppressed – through revolution – or at the psychological level in psychosis; or it may withdraw inwardly into the mystical state in which one identifies with an unformulatable reality.” This symbol does give the impression that something quite shocking that upsets our sense of security could happen on both a personal and collective level. We seem to be being asked to step up and go against the grain, putting our thoughts into action and doing something that is radically different because there is such a strong need for things to change. Gemini could cause us to think fast and spread the word quickly, and also to put our money where our mouths are and actually act on our principles. I am intrigued to see what the next couple of weeks will bring, both personally and collectively! One thing seems certain, with Gemini at the helm, and that is that we won’t be bored!
Much Love
Amy
