Exact at 7.24am UK time (BST)

This is the first New Moon of the astrological calendar, a time for springing into action with a surge of energy and starting anew! As Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, this New Moon truly is a time for new beginnings when we set positive intentions and re-start as we mean to go on. There is the potential for new energy to come in, like a breath of fresh air! Aries is an energetic, motivated, enthusiastic sign that helps us to find the courage to step out of our comfort zone and walk the path less travelled. It is the part of us that has the courage to try new things and is able to assert ourselves when we need to. Those with a lot of Aries in their chart tend to be impulsive, forthright, honest, pioneering, independent and adept at the art of self-love. Taken to the extreme, however, self-love can be seen as being selfish or self-serving! However, Aries does teach us to put ourselves first and stand up for ourselves. This is the sign of the warrior.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer, is sitting right next to the Sun, Moon and Mercury, so it will have a big influence on this New Moon. Chiron shows where we have been wounded in early life leaving a weak spot, vulnerability and insecurity. With all this energy in Aries, we could find ourselves more easily triggered, especially if someone or something inadvertently prods at our vulnerable soft spot. Aries is not known for its soft, gentle approach, rather is very direct, open and can even be aggressive. There is the potential for feeling quite reactive, defensive, insecure and even angry, as Chirotic themes of rejection and abandonment are brought out into the open and we are forced to confront our wounded nature. It could feel like a scab that we thought had healed over is re-opened somehow, which could feel most acute for anyone with personal planets or angles around 12° of a sign, especially the Cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Wherever Chiron is found, there is also the potential for healing. Aries is very candid energy and can help to get things out into the open for them to be dealt with. It can be painful to be truly honest and confront ourselves or others, but it is the only way sometimes. It will be interesting to see how this combination will manifest within the current global situation. Chiron is often prominent during important moments in history, and it feels appropriate that it is currently residing in Aries, who was the god of war. Will things escalate even more and tensions rise higher or is there a chance for healing and resolution? There is the potential for some genuine heroic acts, or for people fancying themselves to be the hero. With Mercury also very close to the Sun, Moon and Chiron and also in Aries, conversations could be very direct, open, to the point and possibly combative or inflammatory. However, they could also be incredibly healing. Chiron, the Sun and Mercury will form an exact conjunction on 2 April, the day after the New Moon, so the energy will be building until then.

The Nodes of the Moon are being well and truly activated by a challenging and dynamic square aspect from Venus, Mars and Saturn, bringing our economic situation sharply into focus. The South Node of the Moon is currently in soulful, dramatic Scorpio, the sign that represents power, banks, loans and money owed to others, while the North Node is in earthy, stable Taurus, the sign of self-sufficiency, simplicity, self-reliance, self-worth and survival. We are being called to strip back to the basics and lead a simpler existence, thus minimizing the power that the financial institutions and power structures have over us. With Saturn sitting right next to Venus, the ruler of that Taurus North Node, exact 28 March but still strong during this Moon, we could be forced to be very realistic about our finances and relationships, as Saturn can definitely highlight feeling of  limitation and lack. It’s hard to escape reality when Saturn is around! With Saturn and Venus both in Aquarius we could find ourselves needing to come up with solutions and think of ways to be more self-sufficient.

With Mars, the ruler of this New Moon, in Aquarius there could also be acts of rebellion, uprisings or protests, especially in reaction to the current financial situation. When people are hungry, they kick back. When our survival is threatened it can bring out the warrior in us, not to mention fear and anxiety. When Saturn and Mars meet, exact 5 April, we could experience rage against the machine, or people acting and reacting from a place of fear, or those in control using force somehow to suppress the People. Fear can so easily bring up anger, so it is important to be mindful of how we act and react in the next week or so and stay as centred as possible. Saturn and Mars can help us to act with discipline, control and focus, but it can also feel very frustrating and irritating, as if we are somehow hitting our head against a brick wall, unable to act on our desires.

Mars also represents our energy levels, so they could feel somewhat muted as well. Anyone with personal planets or angles around 22° of a sign could feel the heavy, restrictive, realistic, controlling  energy of Saturn most acutely, especially those in the Fixed signs or Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

In the meantime, to counteract all this Saturn, we have the very powerful conjunction between expansive Jupiter and spiritual Neptune building in energy, exact on 12 April. This is an incredibly special astrological occurrence that brings the potential for spiritual awakening, the experience of oneness, feelings of unity and a real sense of knowing that you are me and I am you. This can really bring a sense of universal togetherness and connection to the collective unconscious. Jupiter expands and magnifies the energy of the planet that it comes into contact with, making it somehow bigger and more exaggerated. As Jupiter joins Neptune we could find that we are more sensitive, more attuned to spiritual forces, more in flow and able to find a greater sense of acceptance for what is and compassion and empathy for ourselves and others. We could feel a greater sense of trust and faith that no matter what is happening, everything is ultimately working out exactly as it is supposed to, for our highest good.

However, there is another side to this combination that isn’t all love and light. Neptune is the king of propaganda, confusion, glamour, delusions, theatre, spells and smoke screens, so it could be very hard to know what is real and what is illusion. Propaganda is so sophisticated these days that it can make us feel as if there is no point even trying to find the truth, as it is so shrouded in fog. We are invited to listen to our own intuition, trusting our hunches to show us the way to the truth. We may also have a more active dream life and some could experience hallucinations and delusions. Neptune is also the part of us that likes to escape reality through drugs, alcohol, sleep, television, movies, computer games, reading and suchlike. Fantasy can be so much more attractive than reality, especially when the world is in a such troubled place. Sometimes it feels easier to bury our heads in the sand and check out for a moment.

While this conjunction can open us up to spirit and dissolve ego, the consequences of this could be hard for some, as they lose grip on reality or find themselves feeling too “open”, hyper-sensitive, vulnerable, delusional and ungrounded. It is very important to be gentle with ourselves and others as we build up towards this conjunction, tapping into the sense of universal connection and having compassion and empathy for our fellow humans who could easily be overwhelmed and struggling to cope or function. However, the higher potential of Jupiter and Neptune surely is a beautiful antidote to the restrictive, fearful and controlling energy of Saturn and the more assertive energy of Aries, as it helps us to connect to something that is much bigger than us and to join together in unity and unconditional love.

Anyone with personal planets or angles around 23° of a sign will feel the energy of this special conjunction the most acutely, especially those in the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. It is very important to stay grounded!

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon, at 12° Aries, is: “A triangularly shaped flight of wild geese”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “An idealistic reliance upon a mental image of universal order. The wild goose is the mystical bird, hamsa, of Hindu tradition. The Hindu hamsa was the symbol of man’s transcendent soul. The flight of geese presents not only a remarkably geometrical V-shape moving through the sky, a flight that is seasonal and therefore attuned to planetary rhythms. Thus it symbolises cosmic order, in contrast with the social political order within a nation which is represented by its ruler. It is order made visual on the background of the clear sky. It is a “celestial” type of order, even though it is earth-born birds which reveal it by their ability to keep their flight structured. We see arising a potential conflict between cosmic and social principles of order. The principle of COSMIC ORDER polarises the all-too-human reliance on the social concept of law and order”.

This is a hopeful image that brings a sense that we will be realigned to some kind of universal order to realign ourselves to the way things should be. It brings to mind the Jupiter Neptune conjunction, which does hold such potential to remind us of what is truly important, bringing us together in unity and leading us into the light.

The Sabian symbol for Chiron is also interesting: “An unexploded bomb reveals an unsuccessful social protest” which Rudyar describes as “An immature evaluation of the possibility of transforming suddenly the status quo. The symbol pictures the result of a particular attempt to resolve the conflict between two concept-feelings of order. Resolution by violence fails because the ego-power at this stage of the process of individualisation is far too strong. “The State” thwarts attempts at popular revolution, because these are premature expressions of a consciousness which is not free, but can only react “wildly” to constraint and to a central ruling power. It is thus a symbol of immature refusal to conform, in the name of an over idealistic desire for harmony and peace”.

Whenever Aries and Mars are involved there is the potential for anger, aggression and the use of force. There is also the potential for courage, passion and a willingness to confront whatever we may prefer to avoid. Aries season certainly can bring a surge of energy, although it is tempered by the sleepy fog of the Neptune energy! This Moon could activate our triggers, but it could also be tremendously healing, as things come out into the open that are needed to clear the air and start fresh. This is a time of new beginnings after all, a new chapter with fresh new energy coming in! Chiron in Aries can help us to find the hero within us, in whatever form that may be. Let’s see what the Neptune Jupiter conjunction brings. It will be interesting to see whether it leads us into the light or deeper into the fog of illusion. Or both!

PISCES NEW MOON - 2 March 2022

Exact at 5.34pm UK time (GMT)

This is a very special new Moon that has the potential to bring some kind of spiritual upgrade and a continued shift in consciousness as we move into a more transcendental and connected way of operating in the world. Pisces invites us to live from a more sensitive, compassionate, intuitive, empathetic and loving place, whereby we “do as we would be done by”. Pisces is the part of us that knows that we are not as separate as we might like to think, and that what happens to one happens to us all. It is the part of us that experiences that beautiful sense of unity when we are all singing the same song at a concert; as if we are all singing as one. It is the part of us that can put ourselves in another person’s shoes and is willing to sacrifice our own comfort for the greater good. Pisces invites us to find true acceptance and to surrender to the flow of life, delighting in the synchronicities and truly realising what it means to be the co-creator of our reality.

Pisces is what is at play when we simply let go and give up control, allowing spirit to guide us where we need to go. Sometimes, when things are simply too much to bear and we honestly don’t know what to do and where to go, we have that moment when we proverbially “fall to our knees” and call out to the divine for help and guidance. And when we ask, with an open heart, to be shown the way, we receive an answer, in the form of a message, a sign, a moment of grace, an omen, an inner knowing or a feeling of deep connection and oneness. This Moon brings the potential for us to find a deep place of connection to the divine, as we are invited to turn inward and heed the whispers of our soul. This Moon is an ideal time to be still, to meditate and reflect on how we can be of service in this very special time on earth. Indeed, we might literally want to ask how we can be of greatest use and then simply let go so that the divine can work through us and we can live out our true dharma. It is time to find out why we are here.

Jupiter is sitting right next to the Sun and Moon in Pisces, bringing a sense of growth and expansion to the picture. Jupiter is very much at home in Pisces, helping to bring a greater sense of faith, hope and trust that we are somehow guided and protected. We are invited to harness the power of Jupiter in Pisces and ask for what we need. We can use our Pisces imagination to dream a new life into being! This is a very special time in our history, as we have an opportunity to open our hearts and see where we are guided when we just let go and allow something larger than us to take over. As long as any intentions or prayers come from a place of purity and altruism, we could find that we experience amazing synchronicities, serendipitous experiences, moments of grace and a sense of surrender and flow. Jupiter will be in Pisces until 11 May and will join Neptune in Pisces on 12 April, which could be a time of deep connection, awakening, transcendence, expansion and flow.

Venus and Mars are continuing their elongated journey through Capricorn together, and will meet up with Pluto, the planet of soul, transformation and power during this Moon. Quite a potent and powerful combination of energies! This is an important time in our evolution, which can help us to align our personal will and desires (Mars) with our higher will and soul desires (Pluto). Pluto combined with Mars can bring about superhuman strength and steely determination to achieve our goals, but can also bring up rage from the depths of our subconscious and actions that come from a very deep, unconscious and compulsive place. It is great for focusing our energy, but can also be quite ruthless, vengeful, war-like, cutting and obsessive.

This could be a time of considerable intensity within our relationships, whereby our true feelings are revealed and subconscious complexes are exposed. This combination could reveal the heart of the matter, bringing out any secrets or shadow material that we may usually find it easier to deny or hide from sight. It's hard to hide from the truth when Pluto is around!  Pluto can also bring out issues around control, manipulation, power and powerlessness for us to deal with in our closest relationships. Anyone with personal planets or angles around 27° of a sign will feel the energy of this Pluto, Venus and Mars conjunction most acutely, especially in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Something to note is that Pluto is the ruler of the South Node in Scorpio, while Venus is the ruler of the North Node in Taurus, and they are currently joining forces. Not only that, but Pluto, Venus and Mars are also forming a helpful and supportive aspect to the Nodes during this Moon. This very much highlights the current Nodal themes around finance, currency, the economy, self-sufficiency, living off the land, food supplies, banking, money lending, taking one’s power back, finding a more peaceful way of being and moving away from the drama and intensity that we have grown used to in the past few years - the feeling that the rug could be pulled out from beneath us again at any minute.

The Taurus North Node is calling us forward to a more solid connection to the natural world and greater self-reliance and the capacity to sustain ourselves with less reliance on those in power. Taurus is calling us forward towards a life of greater simplicity, urging us to get back to basics and leave behind the Scorpio South Node themes such as loans, mortgages, taxes, money lending, debts, secrets and power abuse in the banking and financial sector. Taurus invites us to strip it back and find a place of greater simplicity, self-sufficiency and self-empowerment.

Saturn and Mercury are also joining forces in Aquarius during this Moon, which could make it a little difficult to think positively. Mercury is the planet that rules our mind and the way we think and communicate, while Saturn represents control, limitation, authority, responsibility and discipline. As such, we may find that our capacity to communicate is somehow suppressed, limited or controlled, with censorship becoming more rife. Freedom of speech could also be curtailed, or at least it could become more obvious that it is. We may need to make some kind of weighty decision that has long term implications. With Saturn involved we could certainly find ourselves experiencing some kind of stark reality check that forces us to see things as they really are rather than how we would like them to be. The conjunction between Saturn and Mercury will be exact a few hours before the Moon is exact, and anybody with personal planets or angles around 18° of a sign will feel Saturn’s energy most acutely, especially the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

The Sabian Symbol for this Moon, at 13° Pisces, is: “An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum”, which Dane Rudyar describes as: “Through the effectual use of his will a consecrated man can become a symbol of courage for all those who follow in his footsteps. Will power is the ultimate spiritual weapon, and its undeviating use is the certification of individual worth. Wherever found, this symbol emphasises the imperative need to make use of the will in meeting the basic challenges of the inner life as well as outer adversaries. Here we see singled out and strongly emphasised the one power in man which is an assurance of victory in the contests generated by social  (or occult) processes, in which he has become an active part. The individual must use that WILL POWER, yet it is not really his own once he operates at a spiritual level. It is God’s will operating through his mind, which focuses its thrusts. It is, occultly speaking, the power of the brotherhood – the energy of the Whole operating through the one-pointed individual who has made this Whole aware of the need for its use in a particular situation”.

This symbol is interesting - it seems to reflect the combination of differing energies involved in this New Moon. On the one hand we have the very refined, gentle, spiritual, sensitive and loving energy of Pisces, while at the same time we have the quite powerful, wilful, focused energy of the Pluto, Mars and Venus conjunction. Pluto and Mars can certainly help us to cut through to the heart of the matter, finding the courage and willpower to do whatever needs to be done. However, Pisces is calling for us to find a way to be of service to the whole and to allow the divine to work through us. This is certainly an important time to put some effort into our spiritual practice and to find our most effective way of connecting to spirit and dissolving ego. This symbol seems to ask us to align our will with the higher will of the divine, finding a way to serve spirit and help the whole. Again, we seem to be prompted to discover our true Dharma. Why are we here, right now, at this time on Earth? How might the Divine best make use of us?

The Sabian symbol for Neptune, the ruler of this Moon, is also very interesting, at 23° Pisces: “A “materialising” medium giving a séance.” which Rudyar describes as “The ability to give one’s own vital energy to substantiate one’s ideals or unconscious desires. The person who believes he or she has a mission or mandate, or any special gift that can be of value to his community, must substantiate this belief. He has to produce results. Sometimes this involves difficulties and special conditions or circumstances; it always demands to some extent the gift of some power of value which is deeply one’s own. Something precious involved in a deeply personal experience has to be surrendered, offered to others. The medium’s psychic substance provides the materials made visible in the phenomena, if the latter are genuine. After the séance, the medium is usually exhausted. The performer gives of his very life to the performance.”

This symbol certainly seconds the sense that we are being asked to somehow find a way of giving ourselves up to the divine and allowing it to work through us in service to the whole. This certainly could be a fruitful time spiritually, during the next month or so, as we move towards the Jupiter Neptune conjunction on 12 April! As such, it is a good time to do whatever brings us a deeper sense of connection to all that is, whether it be through prayer, meditation, breath work, music, dance, nature, song, art - however we find it easier to surrender, let go and connect to the bliss and find that sense of oneness. There are some challenging energies around that are more intense, tough and potentially destructive, but Pisces is calling us to turn inward and connect to our compassion, inner knowing, empathy, sensitivity, faith, trust and capacity for unconditional love. The power of love will always win.

“Love casts out fear; but conversely fear casts out love. And not only love. Fear also casts out intelligence, casts out goodness, casts out all thought of beauty and truth.” Aldous Huxley

AQUARIUS NEW MOON / YEAR OF THE WATER TIGER - 1 February 2022

Picture
Exact at 5.46am UK time (GMT)

This is yet another potent Moon in a series of very powerful Moons! It seems that we are currently going through some kind of transformation and shift, and each Moon is another part of the process. And now we have an Aquarius New Moon, the sign of new vision, breakthroughs, revolution and brotherhood/sisterhood, which calls for us to contemplate our hopes and dreams for a better future. This Moon is especially powerful because we have Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, forming a dynamic, challenging square to the Sun and Moon, which will intensify the liberating, revolutionary energy of the Moon. This Moon seems to be setting the stage for some change, freedom and excitement and is calling for us to step out of whatever comfortable rut of conformity we might be in so that we can live a truly authentic life.

Aquarius is the sign of equality, liberty and fraternity; the part of us that likes to think for ourselves and isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd. Indeed, Aquarius helps us to stand apart from consensus reality so that we can see it more objectively. New Moons represent a time to plants some energetic seeds for the month ahead. We are asked to contemplate what patterns and habits no longer serve us and leave them behind in the dark of the Moon, and to reflect on what we want to cultivate moving forward. Aquarius calls for us to step back and look at things from a different perspective, considering any hopes and dreams we might be harbouring in our hearts, even if they seem unusual, impossible, whacky or downright mad!

Aquarius calls for us to break down our programming, peeling back the layers of conditioning so that we can find out who we really are; our unique, authentic self. We are asked to let go of the need to conform or abide by the rules, especially if the rules make no sense whatsoever. Aquarius teaches us that just because someone in authority tells us something is the right thing to do it does not mean that it is necessarily so. Aquarius calls for us to question the status quo, stand up to authority, protest for our rights and make a break for freedom. Aquarius is not afraid to stand alone, if needs be, rather than blindly following the crowd. As such, this Moon could prompt us to question, rebel, liberate, individuate and to take a step back so that we can see things as they really are.

Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, is a very big player indeed during this New Moon, as the Great Awakener is forming a tight, challenging square to the Sun and Moon. Anytime Uranus is involved we have the potential for shocks, surprises, sudden change, curve balls, wake up calls, epiphanies and breakdowns that lead to breakthroughs. As such, we could have some profound rand shocking revelations, both personally and collectively. Uranus is the planet of revolution and innovation, calling for us to let go of our programming and discover the true essence that lies beneath. It has the capacity to jolt us into a state of greater awareness, waking us up from our slumber and putting us back on the right track. It reminds us who we really are, versus who we thought we were “supposed” to be. This is the planet of freedom that liberates us from the shackles of societal and parental conditioning and helps us to find a place of greater authenticity.

Saturn in Aquarius is also involved in this Moon, bringing into focus the Saturn Uranus square that has been such a big part of the astrology of recent times. Aquarius is the sign that represents technology and the internet. It is the part of us that likes to feel free and seeks like-minded peeps to form friendships with. Saturn is the planet of structure, control, authority, limitation, discipline, commitment, reality and patience. Since Saturn has been in Aquarius, from March 2020, we have experienced a gradual curbing of our freedom and individual rights, limited social contact along with the inability to gather in large groups, more and more authoritarian control through the use of technology and censorship of those who question the prevailing narrative. There is more and more of a sense of big brother watching, which is becoming easier and easier as technology advances. People have been so willing to embrace the technological advances for the convenience it brings. However, there is a price to pay, which could potentially be our freedom if we are not careful.

As this Saturn Uranus square again comes into focus, we have the battle between Uranian freedom and Saturnian control. Uranus could break down the Saturnian structures and liberate us from our state of fear and compliance. We could also find that people are somehow liberated from judgemental attitudes, bringing about greater tolerance for our differences. Uranus in Taurus could bring about some kind of financial revolution which could bring a greater sense of freedom or could tighten authoritarian control. Uranus can wake us up from Saturnian programming, shocking us and greatly challenging our view of reality, which could potentially be quite destabilising. Uranus rebels, Saturn conforms. Uranus represents liberty, change and progression while Saturn represents structure, control and tradition. The old world is crumbling and we are being asked to find our place in a new world that is forming with a set of completely different rules.

Mercury and Venus remain retrograde, for now anyway, as Venus gets ready to turn direct on 29 January and Mercury on 5 February. Both retrograde planets are in Capricorn right now, which is giving us a heavy dose of reality as we are asked to look at the viability of our relationships and potential projects, taking off the idealistic rose-tinted spectacles. Mercury will join Pluto for the second time on 29 January, the first time having been 30 December. This combination of planets could bring about some serious, penetrating, soulful conversations that really get to the heart of the matter and bring out the stark truth. It could be quite exposing and revealing, bringing hidden information and secrets out into the light of our conscious awareness. Pluto and Mercury will conjoin one last time on 11 February and anyone with personal planets or angles around 27° of a sign will be feeling it most acutely, especially the Cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

While Venus has been retrograde in serious, controlled and responsible Capricorn for the past 40 days, prompting us to look at our relationships and finances in a realistic rather than idealistic light, it will be direct by the time the New Moon arrives. We also have Uranus forming a supportive trine to the planet of love and beauty, which is very helpful because it can breath fresh air into our relationships and help us to find a greater sense of freedom and authenticity within our relationships. We are all unique human beings, and as such we have different needs and one relationship simply doesn’t fit all. We are invited to find our “fit”, which could involve a bit of a stark reality check as we see things as they really are instead of how we might wish they could be. It is quite possible that we have been trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and this is our chance to recognise this and figure out which peg might be a better fit.

Uranus was also trine Venus during the Cancer Full Moon on 16 January, so this is a continuation of a process that began then. The difference is that both Uranus and Venus are direct now, so we should be able to see some movement forward. Capricorn is the part of us that likes to take our time to mull things over, so we have had the chance for some deep introspection, thorough processing and reflection on what we truly want and need as we move forward into this new world. Capricorn likes to lay down foundations and is capable of great commitment, so it is possible that the inner work that has been done in recent times could be laying the groundwork for some something that can really stand the test of time, However, with Chiron the Wounded healer challenging Venus there is also the potential for us being deeply triggered within our relationships, although some radical honesty could be amazingly healing, despite hurting a little!

Anyone with personal planets or angles around 10° of a sign will be feeling the liberating, awakening and progressive energy of Uranus most acutely, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Chiron and Venus are both in Cardinal signs, however, around 11° and 12°. This certainly does feel like a profound time for our relationships, both to ourselves and others. It has the potential to bring a greater sense of space and freedom and the capacity to be totally honest with ourselves, contemplating what we really, truly want so that we can be utterly authentic and true to who we really are.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon, at 13° Aquarius, is interesting indeed: “A barometer”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The ability to discover basic natural facts that allow us to plan in advance for action. The barometer registers air pressure, and a change of pressure today gives some indication of what the weather will be tomorrow. Planning for the near future is a possibility because the potential (or seed) of the future is already operating at the core of the present. The key word here is ANTICIPATION.” This symbol gives a sense of us sniffing things out as we watch and wait, feeling out the “atmosphere before taking action. There is a sense of anticipation, as we prepare ourselves for some kind of a shift, but for now we are just feeling things out, testing the water and not rushing into anything until all becomes a bit clearer. A seed is being sown during this Moon that will bear fruit soon, but for now we must wait and watch.

It all feels quite exciting though! The strong influence of Uranus, the planet that can wake us up and bring about liberation and radical change, brings the potential for quite an energetic shift as we also  move out of the Metal Ox year into the Water Tiger year. The Water Tiger is incredibly dynamic and strong, and can be confrontational, but it can really get things moving, which will be welcome after a yin Metal year! It could give us an enormous amount of energy for getting things done, breathing energy into projects and movements. As a dear Chinese practitioner friend said, Yang Water is the strongest of all the elements, rather like a tsunami. Let’s see what this year brings!

CAPRICORN NEW MOON - 2 January 2022

12/29/2021

Picture
Exact at 6.33pm UK time (GMT)

We now have the first New Moon of the new year and it is somewhat appropriate that it falls in Capricorn, a sign known for discipline, commitment, structure and responsibility! New Moons are a perfect time to set positive intentions for the month ahead and to contemplate what patterns and habits we might like to leave behind in the dark of the Moon. This Capricorn New Moon can help us to lay down the foundation for the year ahead, think about what we might want to change and what healthy habits, goals and patterns we might wish to commit to as we move forward. Capricorn helps us to be truly accountable and to take full responsibility for ourselves and our actions, which is quite handy for the first New Moon of the year!

Capricorn is also a rather serious, pragmatic sign that can cause us to be quite hard on ourselves, judging and condemning ourselves unnecessarily and feeling like we have to somehow atone for any excesses and over-indulgences during Sagittarius season! Capricorn is the part of us that can tend to set limitations, to hold ourselves back and to control our actions and reactions. It can help us to develop the self-discipline and commitment needed to attain any goals or projects we set ourselves. Like a mountain goat, we set our sights on the goal and slowly but surely make our way to the top of the mountain, determinedly side stepping any obstacles or difficulties in our path. Things can seem a bit heavy and even grim in January, after all of the festivities are over and reality sets in, but it is also a really good time to knuckle down and get things done.

Saturn, the ruler of the Capricorn New Moon, is currently in Aquarius, where it has been, off and on, since March 2020. With the planet of authority, limitation, reality and control in the sign of the group, the community, freedom, technology and rebellion, we have experienced a curbing of our freedom and rights, a limitation of the capacity to gather in groups, laws being passed that affect people’s right to protest and more and more censorship, authoritarian control and limitation through the use of technology. If Aquarius is the part of ourselves that questions the status quo and challenges authority and any rules we deem unfair, unreasonable, damaging or ridiculous, then controlling and authoritarian Saturn in this sign can make it increasingly difficult to do so. The Planet that makes the rules is currently in the sign that breaks the rules and this is not a particularly comfortable fit!

However, Saturn also reminds us that it is our responsibility to question and challenge, to protect the rights of the people and to be accountable for the kind of world we want to live in. Instead of giving our power away to those in authority we are called to really step up to the plate and question any rules and regulations that could have a negative affect on our lives and future. Saturn is the part of us that takes full responsibility for our lives and well-being rather than passively accepting whatever those in power and authority tell us is the right thing for us. Saturn will remain in Aquarius until March 2023, during which time it is quite possible that certain rights and freedoms will slowly but surely be eroded away unless we take responsibility for questioning the status quo. Saturn is a very patient planet that concentrates on the long game, chipping away at the stone, slowly but surely, until suddenly we realise that there is nothing left.

The Saturn Uranus square is waning now, having peaked on 24 December, which involved the planet of authority, structure and control squaring off against the planet of freedom, revolution and change. Uranus, however, is a big player during this Moon as it is forming a helpful, harmonious, supportive trine aspect to the Sun and Moon. Uranus can bring sudden change, surprises, breakthroughs and epiphanies, shifting us out of stagnation and helping us to release ourselves from whatever rut we may have found ourselves in! This Moon could help us to break out of unhealthy patterns, shedding old skin and undoing old, conditioned habits and programming. We could experience a curve ball that takes us by surprise and creates some kind of shift that is very liberating and insightful. Uranus can help us to wake up from a slumber and realise what is really going on.

Those of us with personal planets or angles around 10° of a sign will feel the exciting, liberating energy of Uranus most acutely, especially those in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. It certainly adds a slightly unpredictable, enlivening and freeing energy to this New Moon that could help jolt us into a greater awareness and help us to release old, outworn patterns and habits and set us onto the right path for us..

Chiron, the Wounded Healer is also a a big part of this Moon,  as it is forming a dynamic, challenging square aspect to the Sun and Moon. Chiron can signify illness, wounding and insecurity, and in Aries can symbolise warfare and a form of tough love that can be somewhat painful but also incredibly healing. Chiron in Aries can make us quite defensive and reactionary when someone prods at our tender, wounded, insecure bits, but can also bring out our courageous and pioneering spirit, helping us to face things that we have hitherto shied away from. It can bring out honesty that is painful to face up to but very refreshing and healing indeed. Here we have Chiron, which represents wounding and illness, combined with Aries, the sign of warfare and aggression that can spark things off so that they spread like wildfire. It is an interesting combination, given the current climate.

Jupiter moves into Pisces on 28 December, having been in Aquarius for the past year. Jupiter likes being in Pisces, as the planet of faith, beliefs, growth and expansion is very much at home in the spiritual sign of compassion, intuition, sensitivity and unconditional love. This could help bring the best out in us, connecting us to our faith, inner guidance and to the divine. Jupiter expands and magnifies the energy of whatever sign he is in, and in Pisces we could feel greater empathy and compassion towards all beings as well as heightened connection, intuition, gratitude and the ability to see the bigger picture. However, Pisces is also the part of us that struggles with boundaries and may tend to bury our heads in the sand and seek to escape reality, so Jupiter may also bring those tendencies to the fore. However, all in all this feels like a positive influence, as it brings the gift of faith, gratitude and connection.

Mercury will have just moved into Aquarius as the New Moon approaches, helping us to think outside the box and perceive things from a different perspective, while Mars is in the middle of Sagittarius, helping us to have the courage of our convictions and to be brave enough to seek the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. We may just have to watch out for trying to ram our version of the truth down other people’s throats and vice versa! Venus is currently retrograde in Capricorn, helping us to reflect on our relationships and values, perhaps bringing anything up that may need to be revisited, rehashed or reviewed in order for us to move forward and make a deeper commitment. Indeed, relationships from the past can sometimes resurface if there is unfinished business of some kind. There is a sense of going back over old ground within the realm of our relationships.

The Nodes of the Moon are in the process of shifting from Sagittarius and Gemini into Scorpio and Taurus. Scorpio and Taurus are the signs that represent finance, so the next eighteen months could bring a greater focus on our financial situation and the economy, calling us to take our power back and become more self-sufficient. Scorpio represents “other people’s money” such as loans, banks, money lenders and mortgages, while Taurus helps us to be more self-reliant, self-sustaining and able to survive and take care of our own needs. Scorpio deals with issues around power and powerlessness, while Taurus calls for us to empower ourselves. With Uranus also in Taurus there is the potential for some kind of financial revolution and the digitalisation of currency and finance.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon, at 13° Capricorn, is: “A fire worshiper meditates on the ultimate realities of existence” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The subjective quest for ultimates beyond the interplay of life and death processes” and goes on to say “The mystery of fire has always captured man’s imagination because it is the mystery of all transformations wrapped in the enigma of death. In times when collective, perhaps total death could be in store for mankind, the process of subjective meditation is fascinating an ever-greater number of people. This symbol brings us to a stage beyond life itself. Are we ready to take this step which the masters of yoga claim to have taken: to experience death and return to the same body? Are we ready to demonstrate man’s WILL TO TRANSCENDENCE”. This is a powerful symbol indeed that seems to be intimating some kind of transformation and purification process that could fundamentally change us.

This New Moon certainly does bring the potential for changing some rigid patterns and shaking off some unhealthy or unhelpful conditioning and programming. It could be a really good idea, rather than dwelling in guilt, fear and judgement, to focus on some positive, realistic and possible goals that we are able to commit to and slowly work towards. Uranus can certainly help to wake us up to some surprising revelations and realisations, liberating us from old, stuck situations and mindsets, so it is helpful to harness this energy to make positive change. Jupiter in Pisces is such a lovely energy to have moving forward into this year, as it can help us to connect to our hearts, reminding us to live in the present moment and to be grateful for all that we already have.

Much Love

SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON / TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE - 4 December 2021

12/2/2021

Picture
Exact at 7.43am UK time (GMT)

This is the second Eclipse of the season, signifying a very important time energetically as Eclipses tend to bring some kind of shift in consciousness and the beginning of a new chapter in whatever area of our chart the Moon falls in. This is no ordinary New Moon, as it will have more of a far reaching impact on our lives. Something is ending in order for something else to come into being. What needs to be left behind in the dark of the Moon so that we can move forward and grow? The New Moon is in Sagittarius, the truth seeker, so what beliefs might be holding us back and keeping us small? Are we too attached to our version of the truth and unable to hear alternative points of view? Are we afraid of the truth? What is the truth? Do we trust our intuitive inner "knowing", or do we override it with our rational, logical, “reasonable” mind? Are we able to perceive the bigger picture? These are all themes that could arise over the course of this New Moon/Eclipse.

Sagittarius is the part of us that isn’t afraid to shoot for the stars and is up for an adventure. It is a very optimistic sign and the part of us that seeks to broaden our horizons and expand our mind. People with a lot of Sagittarius energy in their chart tend to have a great deal of faith, as they are able to see every experience and situation, no matter how grim, as an opportunity for growth. This is the part of us that finds meaning in everything and has the faith that no matter how dark things get there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and some kind of higher purpose behind what is occurring. Sagittarius isn’t exactly known for its tact, but is more concerned with getting the truth out there, even if it hurts! Sagittarius abides by natural law rather than man-made law, which is a beautiful thing!

Whenever we have an Eclipse it brings the Nodes of the Moon into focus, highlighting the main focus of growth that we are currently facing, both personally and collectively. We are coming to the very end of the Nodes’ stay in Sagittarius and Gemini, which began in May 2020 and will end in December/January. The Sagittarius South Node has been bringing lessons around trusting our gut and our intuition - that part of us that knows what we know without quite knowing why we know it. The Gemini North Node, however, has been encouraging us to search for facts, data and proof of what we intuitively sense, although the absolute, overall truth has been somewhat elusive. The Gemini North Node has been asking us to use our common sense and pay attention to the word on the street and what we can actually see with our own eyes rather than automatically believing everything that is presented as “truth”.

The Gemini North Node has also been encouraging us to listen to other people’s points of view rather than becoming too entrenched in our version of the truth or trying to convince and convert others to our beliefs and convictions. There certainly have been many preachers on the pulpit in the past 18 months, expressing their beliefs in no uncertain terms and being quite intolerant of other people’s beliefs and points of view. Gemini invites us to really listen to each other rather than being self-righteous or resistant to any truth that challenges our own beliefs. It encourages us to apply some logic and common sense to whatever we are facing and to question and do some research rather than blindly and unquestioningly accepting what we are being presented with.

Gemini encourages us to find our voice, even if it feels difficult or scary, researching, gathering and sharing information with one another and expressing our thoughts and opinions in a way that people can understand and digest even if they may differ from their own. With the Nodes about to switch signs there could be a sense of urgency around sharing information and finding some way of bringing the truth out into the light. This energy will all be very much highlighted during this Moon, especially as we are getting so close to the end of this 18 month process that the Nodes have taken us through.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 13° Sagittarius, tells quite a story: “A widow’s past is brought to light”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The karma of past actions as it affects opportunities presented by a new cycle. What the “widow’s past” is remains obscure, but the point is that even as a past cycle is closed – a phase of married life ends – the karma of whatever deeds or misdeeds this cycle witnessed will almost inevitably intrude into the new life period. Also, once a cycle of activity is concluded, much that was unclear or unconsciously motivated in the events it witnessed can now more easily come to the clear consciousness of the mind. It is possible to joyously herald the dawn from high above the actual stresses of existence, but the new day may be found loaded and darkened by the unfinished business of many a yesterday. Mankind is “the widow,” because our soon-to-be-concluded Piscean Age has buried most of the ideals it once revered and proclaimed. Yet the New Age will have to deal with many oppressive ghosts. This is a symbol of RETRIBUTION.”

It will be interesting to see what comes out into the light during this Moon/Eclipse and over the next few weeks as the Nodes conclude this journey of growth through Gemini and Sagittarius. Uranus is forming a nagging inconjunct aspect to the Sun and Moon, which could mean that we are in for some kind of shock or surprise as the universe throws us the odd curve ball or two. With the Sun and Moon in the sign of the truth seeker, unpredictable Uranus, the Great Awakener could jolt us into sudden and unsettling awareness of some truths that have hitherto eluded us. Uranus and Saturn are working their way back towards the third and final square of this year, whereby the planet of authority, structure and control comes up against the planet of freedom, change and revolution. The structures of society have certainly received quite a shake up in recent times, with everything feeling very uncertain and unpredictable indeed. And who knows what shocks and surprises might be lurking around the next corner?

The energy of the square between Saturn and Uranus is building in strength over the course of this month and will culminate on 24 December. It will be interesting to see what happens during this time, with so much pressure building to bring the truth out into the light, as well as the planet of freedom and rebellion coming up against the planet of authority and control. Saturn is currently in Aquarius, the sign that represents the internet and technology, laying down the foundation for a greater use of authoritarian control through the use of technology. Uranus is in Taurus, the sign of finance and the natural world. Put the two together and we could have a revolution of the financial system involving a greater use of technology, and we could also have a tug of war or a split off between those who embrace the structure and tight control of a high tech society and those who value their freedom and the natural world, including bartering and living off the land.

Anyone with personal planets and angles around 11° of a sign will feel the energy of the Saturn Uranus square most acutely, especially those in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. They are such different energies, Saturn and Uranus, as Saturn lays down the rules while Uranus breaks the rules. Saturn is the strict parent or authority figure that conditions and programs us to conform to their expectations and act in a certain way, while Uranus is the maverick that questions the status quo and dares to stand out from the crowd, undoing the layers of conditioning and allowing individuation. Saturn lays down the structures and foundations that we rely on, while Uranus breaks them apart. Sometimes things have to break down for us to break through to the other side. Saturn represents the limits of what we perceive as reality. Uranus can blast that so-called reality into smithereens, revealing what lays beyond those limits, blowing our minds and forcing us to see a completely different perspective. This can be unsettling, to say the least, but if we remain flexible and willing to bend a little we could experience a sense of true liberation and incredible insight.

Venus is joining forces with Pluto in Capricorn over the next few days, exact on 11 Dec, as she prepares to go retrograde on 20 December. Venus is the planet of love, relationship, values and money, so when she comes into contact with Pluto, the planet of soul, power and transformation we could experience a metamorphosis of our values or power plays around money and relationships. Pluto can deepen our relationships, forcing some hitherto hidden material to come out into the open so that we could feel a bit more exposed and vulnerable. Issues around trust, loss, jealousy, obsession, sphere. Pluto can bring some darkness out into the light, which also brings to mind the Sabian symbol for this Moon. What secrets might be exposed, what psychological complexes could be revealed and what agendas might come to light? Venus and Pluto will conjoin three times in the next few months - 11 December, 25 December and one last time on 3 March, when Mars will also be in on the act.

This is not an easy Moon, per se, but it could bring about some important change and insight as the truth comes out somehow. Sagittarius really wants to understand the bigger picture, while Gemini wants us to apply common sense. The Sabian symbol ties in with so much of the planetary energy of this Moon, such as the karma of Saturn, the truth of Sagittarius, the dark, exposing, transforming energy of Pluto, not to mention the sense of a new chapter that an Eclipse represents.

What needs to come out into the open so that we can move forward to the next phase? What truths have been obscured that now need to be revealed? What kind of karma and retribution are we looking at, and for what deeds? With Mercury, the ruler of the Gemini North Node also in Sagittarius, there is a huge emphasis on truth during this Moon. Not what we want to believe because it is convenient to us, but rather the plain, simple, ungarnished truth. Sagittarius wouldn’t have it any other way!

The truth shall set you free.

Much Love

SCORPIO NEW MOON - 4 November 2021

Picture
Exact at 9.15pm, UK time (GMT).

Scorpio season is now upon us, which is always an opportunity to do some purging! Much like the leaves falling from the trees in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year, we are invited to allow anything that isn’t serving us to fall away. There is a sense of being stripped bare, like a leafless tree or a snake shedding its skin. Scorpio forces us to face our shadows, recognising the parts of us that we might deny in ourselves but tend to project out onto others. As we move toward the dark of the Moon we are invited to turn inward and do the inner work to release old, unhealthy patterns, behaviour and habits that are no longer appropriate for us as we move forward. We have a lot of help during this Moon to let go, purge all the crap and move forward with a lighter step!

Scorpio forces us to see the bare naked truth, even if we don’t like what we see! It helps us to dig deep beneath the surface and bring out whatever might be lurking there, exposing our deepest, darkest secrets, fears and desires. This is an incredibly transforming, catalytic energy, helping us to recognise what is rotten and decaying so that we can release and purify it, rising out of the ashes of its destruction. Scorpio doesn’t hold any punches; it is incredibly perceptive, astute and even suspicious and can see through the façade to the heart of the matter, pinpointing anything we might be trying to hide. This Moon is an ideal time to be utterly honest with ourselves and own up to our compulsions, obsessions, psychological complexes and triggers, and as we do so they will start to lose their power.

So often the traits that really bother us in someone else are aspects of ourselves that we simply cannot see - we have relegated them to the shadows so that we are irrationally triggered by the same quality in someone else. This Moon can help us to bring the darkness out into the light. With Pluto, the planetary ruler of this Moon in Capricorn right now, it is the structures of society that are being exposed, revealing the darkness and rot for all to see. This Moon has the potential to further unveil corruption and agendas in the governments, corporations and beyond, forcing those in power to be more transparent and also forcing us to see things that we would prefer to deny because they make us feel so uncomfortable. Sometimes we need a dark night of the soul in order to come into the light.

Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and is getting very close to the end of its stay as it moves into Aquarius in 2023, so it still has some work to do in transforming the old, outworn patriarchal structures into something more appropriate for us moving forward. The old order is falling away, but it’s not going down without a fight!

Uranus is a very big player indeed during this Moon, as it is directly opposite the Sun and Moon. This is a very exciting, electrical, unpredictable energy that has the capacity to rejuvenate and wake us up. Uranus can break things down so that we can experience some kind of a breakthrough. It can shock or  jolt us out of stagnation and complacency into a place of greater awareness, bringing a sense of freedom and liberation from old conditioning. We all have patterns that have formed over time as a result of our parental and societal conditioning that are not who we really are and, quite frankly, are not helpful! Combine the planet of sudden change and revolution with the transforming, catalytic energy of Scorpio and there is the potential for some amazing realisations and insight into some of the subconscious patterns that sabotage our lives and relationships from the shadows.

Uranus can help us to shift out of our emotional ruts, breathing fresh air into our lives, which is much needed after the heaviness of recent times, as Saturn has been forming a challenging square to the Sun for the past week or so. It can enliven and wake us up, helping us to see and release ourselves from any shadow material and unhealthy patterns that may be holding us prisoner, which is so very welcome! It can also awaken us to anything that we may be unwilling to see or admit the existence of. Uranus is a bit like a light bulb going on, and as it is opposing Scorpio it could make us “see” behind the veil that which we have been unable and unwilling to confront, both personally and collectively. Those of us with any personal planets and angles around 12° of a sign will feel the exciting, liberating and changing energy of Uranus and this Moon most acutely, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

Mars has also recently moved into Scorpio, where he is much more comfortable than in Libra! This combination can help us to confront some difficult material and overcome some big obstacles and limitations. Mars in Scorpio gives us the desire and courage to face our shadows, peering into the deepest darkest corners and doing the inner work to really get to the bottom of our subconscious compulsions and tendencies. We may have to take a trip into the underworld and could find ourselves severely triggered at times, but there is some buried treasure to be found here as we experience a deeper connection with ourselves and others. Mars in Scorpio can be ruthlessly honest, but sometimes that is exactly what is needed - the truth in its rawest form, without any kind of sugar coating! Mars is in Scorpio from 30 October until 13 December.

Mercury also moves into Scorpio the day after this New Moon, making this a veritable Scorpio party! Mercury in this intense, deep and penetrating sign can help our minds really get to the bottom of things, piercing through the veil of illusion and fully comprehending the truth of the matter, as uncomfortable as it may be. We may say things that hit below the belt but which are hard to deny. Our minds may go to some quite dark places as we are forced to confront some challenging material, but it is better to face the truth than to live in denial. Indeed, Mercury in Scorpio could bring out our inner detective and psychologist, leaving no stone unturned as we peer into the shadows and confront whatever we find lurking there. Mercury will be in Scorpio from 5 November until 24 November.

Mercury and Mars will join forces on 10 November, which could ramp things up in the “uncomfortable truths” department! This combination could help us to bring anything out into the open that we may not usually have the courage to say, but could also cause us to say things we regret. This is a perfect recipe for the Freudian slip, or for blurting out something that comes from a very subconscious place. We may have to confront some challenging psychological material during this time and could have some penetrating conversations or angry outbursts that pierce right through to the heart of the matter. We may find that we suddenly have the courage to say what we really, truly think and feel, with no filter whatsoever. Similarly, we may be the recipient of some kind of hard but necessary truth that penetrates us to our core.

We may also find out some revealing information or messages via the news or media, as certain truths could be revealed that have the potential to bring out rage or anger. There could also be some very passionate debates and things said in the heat of the moment that are very revealing and exposing indeed! Anyone with personal planets or angles around 7° Scorpio will feel the energy of this combo most acutely, especially in the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 13° Scorpio, is: “An inventor performs a laboratory experiment”, which Rudyar describes as “ The driving urge toward achievement, which is at the root of civilisation.” He goes on to say “ One must try to go to the roots of problems of interpersonal or international relations, as well as to discover the principles controlling the interaction between material particles and larger bodies. Modern technology is only one approach to an immensely complex problem. Intuition is as necessary to success as intellectual analysis. The symbol stresses the value of individual initiative; perseverance and caution in any attempt to understand how everything is related to everything else. What is most needed is the ability to relate seemingly unrelated facts.”

There is a sense, with this symbol, of stepping outside of the comfort zone and experimenting in some way, even at the risk of failure. This ties in with the involvement of Uranus with the Moon, a planet that very much invites us to think outside of the box and try something we have never done before. There are times in our lives when we have to take a risk and the outcome is uncertain. Uranus invites us to be as flexible and open as possible to what might come up, while Scorpio encourages us to dig deep and purge, letting go of unhealthy patterns and being willing to peer into some dark corners. To deny the existence of the shadows only gives them more power. There is a liberating, forward looking feeling to this Moon, as we shed layers and dead weight, which can leave us feeling somewhat vulnerable but also empowered, strong and lighter in our step.

“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they're never weakness.” Brené Brown

LIBRA NEW MOON - 6 October 2021

10/3/2021

Picture
Exact at 12.05pm UK time (BST)

This is a potent New Moon which has the potential to have a strong impact on the month ahead. We have the Sun, Moon, Mars and Retrograde Mercury all sitting together in the peace-loving, diplomatic, sociable sign of Libra, which very much puts the focus on our relationships. We also have a lot of retrograde planets at the moment, including Mercury, calling us to go back over ground that we have already covered. As ever, the New Moon holds the potential for us to seed something new and to leave whatever isn’t serving us behind in the dark of the Moon. What positive intentions can we set in motion around the way we relate to others, especially our most intimate other? What habits and patterns might we want to release that tend to sabotage our relationships? What do we actually want our relationships to look like? How and where in our life do we tend to go to extremes and would like to find more balance? Do we need to look at another point of view? These are all good questions to ask around a Libra New Moon!

Libra is the part of us that likes to be around others and seeks balance and harmony. This is the sign represented by the scales that helps us to find the middle ground rather than veering too far towards one extreme or the other. Libra helps us to take a fair, balanced and reasonable approach and to see things from both sides, which could be rather helpful in this current climate that has become so very divisive. We are encouraged to really listen so that we can see things from another perspective and gain some true understanding of where the other person is coming from. This is an ideal opportunity to open ourselves up to other points of view and walk a mile in someone else’s shoes.

Libra is particularly adept at the art of compromise, although when taken too far it can lead to people pleasing and acquiescence. While Libra reminds us that there is no “I” in team and is particularly adept at the art of relationship, this Moon may also invite us to recognise where and how we may lose ourselves, or give our power away, or let things slide for the sake of peace and harmony. Ultimately Libra is seeking a sense of fairness and equality, whereby there is no power imbalance and no one person has the upper hand. Libra’s ideal is equal give and take, based on mutual love, consideration and respect. This Moon could make us more aware of how the power may have shifted too far in one direction, giving us an opportunity to balance the scales so that true harmony can be achieved.

Mars is in exactly the same degree as the Sun and Moon during this Moon, which is very interesting because Mars rules Aries, the sign opposite Libra. While the Libran part of ourselves likes to keep the peace and is not a fan of conflict, Mars is the warrior planet! The presence of this strong, assertive, motivated and forceful energy could help us to stand up and fight for the Libra principles of fairness, justice, balance and equality. Mars In gentle Libra is not exactly aggressive, but could help us to have the courage to bring anything out into the open which may be causing unhealthy dynamics within our relationships. With Mercury also involved we could find that we are able to communicate in a more candid, direct, honest, impulsive and forthright manner about any underlying issues within our relationships and to voice our needs. Libra reminds us to be kind and loving with one another, so this could be a good opportunity to bring things out into the open, make decisions and act on them, but hopefully without too much ego involved.

Mars, the Sun and Moon are sitting together at 13° Libra, while Mercury is at 20° Libra during this Moon, but the Sun, Mars and Mercury will be gathered together in a pack between 5 Oct and 11 Oct, so we can expect some brave, direct, honest, open conversations to occur during that time. However, it is important to be aware that when the Sun and Mars join together there is the potential for an increase in ego drive, although this will hopefully be tempered by the kind, peaceful nature of Libra! However, Libra can also bring out the extremist behaviour when it is not balanced, so there is the potential for impatience, frustration, anger and conflict. Anyone with personal planets or angles between 11 and 20 degrees of a sign will feel the energy most acutely, especially in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Mercury went retrograde in Libra on 27 September and will remain so until 18 October, when the planet of mind and communication will turn direct again. This gives us an opportunity to look back, review and reflect, going back over old ground to see what we have learned in the past few months and what we may have missed. Any unresolved material within our relationships could come up during this time, whether it pertains to past or current relationships. People could pop up from the past with whom we have unfinished business, giving us a chance to revisit and resolve any issues that we have previously been unable to face and that may be holding us back in some way.

This feels like a wonderful opportunity to go back so that we can move forward. It will be interesting to see what comes up as the Mercury, Mars and the Sun join forces over the next week or so. This could be a time of open, candid, direct communication that could be very helpful indeed for our relationships, helping us to bring anything up that may hitherto have felt uncomfortable to face or difficult to voice.

Uranus and Chiron are both a big part of this Moon, as they are forming challenging aspects to the Sun. Moon and Mars. Chiron in Aries could bring about some triggers that expose our sore spots and wounding so that we have a chance to heal them. There is the potential for people close to us saying or doing things that trigger and provoke reactions in us, causing us to be somewhat over-sensitive or  defensive. However, with all this Libran energy around it will hopefully be quite gentle, giving us the chance to be open and honest with one another so that we can bring healing to whatever comes up for us. Chiron in Aries doesn’t exactly have the softest bedside manner, but sometimes tough love is exactly what is needed instead of pussy footing around the issue!

Uranus is the Awakener, the planet of radical change that brings about curve balls and wake-up calls that help to release us from stagnant ruts and unhealthy patterns. This unpredictable planet is forming an almost exact inconjunct aspect with the Sun, Moon and Mars during this Moon, which could help us to liberate ourselves from old, stuck, conditioned habits of relating so that we are free to be completely ourselves. We may act or react in ways that shock or surprise us, but this could be very refreshing, as it enables us to be more authentic and true to ourselves and our values. There is the potential for some shocks or surprises, wilful action and sudden acts of aggression or rebellion, but Uranus also brings a breath of fresh air, excitement and liberation from any programming that may hold us prisoner. This energy adds to the open, direct, honest nature of Mars, Mercury and the Sun, as it calls for us to be true to ourselves and open to change and progression.

The energy of Pluto is also incredibly strong and potent during this Moon, as it is stationary and turning direct on the same day. Not to mention that Venus, the ruler of Libra, is in Scorpio, Pluto’s sign. Pluto and Scorpio ask us to dig deep and face some uncomfortable truths, exposing our tender underbelly and confronting the parts of ourselves and life that we might prefer not to see or admit to. On both a personal and collective level, anything hidden, rotting or secret could come out into the light and power dynamics could be shown up for what they are, forcing us to be more transparent. Indeed, the Plutonian themes of power/powerlessness, soul-growth, loss, abandonment, trust and transformation could be very prominent in the few days before and after the New Moon. With Venus in Scorpio, our psychological compulsions and complexes could show themselves within our relationships, which could ultimately lead to a deepening of intimacy and closeness, as uncomfortable as it may feel initially!

The Sabian Symbol of this Moon, at 14° Libra, is: “In the heat of the noon hour, a man takes a siesta”, which Dane Rudyar describes as: “The need for recuperation within the social pattern of everyday activity. This symbol can be seen as emphasizing the need for techniques of RELAXATION, and the need to allow the functions of body and psyche to “digest,” free from external pressures”. This symbol seems to be a call for rest and recuperation, for honouring our bodies and recognising when enough is enough. Sometime we just need time out to stop, reflect and digest rather than battling through. This symbol seems very much in keeping with the peaceful aspect of Libra and Mercury Retrograde, which calls for our minds to take a bit of a break and for us to take the time to reflect and review rather than moving forward.

This Moon has a rather refreshing quality and does seem to bring the potential for some kind of shift, especially in the realm of our relationships. The supporting planetary energy of Mars, Uranus and Chiron brings opportunity for change, courage, open honesty and healing, and all under the umbrella of kind, considerate, peace-loving Libra, a sign that ultimately seeks harmony, fairness and equality. With Pluto and Venus in Scorpio involved we definitely have the possibility for some sticky, karmic, uncomfortable material to come out into the open, but ultimately this is only a good thing. It is important to bring the shadows out into the light and for all to be transparent. With Chiron in Aries and Mars involved there definitely is the potential for some anger and forceful energy to come up, but ultimately this energy helps get things out into the open and gives us courage to confront anything we may usually shy away from. Above all, however, Libra reminds us to be kind.

VIRGO NEW MOON - 7 September 2021

Exact at 1.51am UK time (BST)

Virgo season is now upon us, which always brings a “back to school” feeling about it! This is an ideal Moon to set some healthy, positive intentions that can help us to improve ourselves and our lives. Virgo is a very humble, modest, efficient, service-oriented, health-conscious sign that likes order and routine and loves to feel busy and useful. It is the part of us that wants to do well, although sometimes it can also mean that we are quite hard on ourselves, seeking some kind of impossible perfection. A Virgo New Moon can help us to contemplate new, healthy routines for ourselves and to organise and declutter so that we can clear the qi. Virgo likes to cleanse and purify, so this is an ideal opportunity to do just that, whether through diet, exercise or even clearing away any toxic or unhealthy relationships or situations. This New Moon could really help us to explore what needs to change and to actually do something about it!

Virgo is the part of us that is fond of a good project and is very good at self-analysis, as long as it doesn’t go too far and turn into self-flagellation! The best use of Virgo energy is to decide what needs tweaking and then simply put one step in front of the other rather than creating a huge obstacle in our minds that feels impossible to surmount! The subject of health could become more prominent during Virgo season, but it is important not to worry too much or become too fixated on it, but rather to make sure that we take care of ourselves and manage our stress levels in the best way we can. Virgo is quite self-critical and is all too aware of the power of the mind to impact our body, both positively and negatively. It is the part of us that is prone to over-analysis, worry and anxiety, so it is very important to be kind to ourselves and integrate some kind of relaxing or meditative practice into our daily routine. The Virgo part of us takes great joy from tidiness and putting our lives in order!

Uranus is forming an exact trine aspect to the Sun and Moon, which could help us to make the changes that are necessary to improve our situation. Trines are helpful, flowing aspects and so Uranus could help us to think outside of the box and come up with new solutions for any issues or conundrums we might be facing. Uranus offers us a change of perspective, breakdowns that lead to breakthroughs, sudden insight, waking us up to concepts, ideas and possibilities that we may not have been open to before. Uranus invites us to be a bit more inventive, stepping out of the mould and shaking off the old, outworn version of ourselves that is no part of who we are becoming. There is a sense of freedom and excitement when Uranus is involved; a feeling that change is afoot if we are open, flexible and can allow it to pull us out of whatever rut or holding pattern we may be stuck in. This is a very helpful energy indeed if we are seeking to change our routines and become healthier in mind, body and spirit!

Mars is also in Virgo at the moment and is forming a nice trine aspect with Pluto during this Moon. There is a lot of flowing trine energy involved in this Moon! Mars, the planet of action in practical, work and health oriented Virgo is certainly going to help us to put our plans and projects into action and do whatever is needed to improve our situation! Add Pluto to the mix and we have some soul power to help us to achieve our goals. Pluto helps us to purge old patterns and transform ourselves, prompting us to dig deep into our shadows and face whatever we find there so that we can transmute it. Mars and Pluto in harmony can bring the superhuman strength, will and courage to confront and overcome things that we never would have thought possible. These two powerful forces can also help us to have the courage to reveal or expose the parts of ourselves that we might usually be too shy or ashamed to show.

This is very helpful energy to have if we are contemplating making positive changes in our lives, as it helps us to align our personal will with our higher will. It can also create a high degree of raw, sexual energy, bringing a greater sense of intimacy and physical connection. Anybody with personal planets or angles around 24° of a sign will be feeling the powerfully energetic and transforming energy of Pluto and Mars most acutely, especially those in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

We also have two other helpful trines during this Moon, which makes it feel like a very positive and supportive lunation indeed. One is between Saturn in Aquarius and Mercury in Libra, helping us to think sensibly and to make concrete decisions that are based in reality. This combination helps us to use our common sense and to formulate careful plans that actually have the potential to stick. Our minds are under no illusions when Saturn is involved, but are able to be clear, realistic and logical.

The other trine is between Jupiter in Aquarius and Venus in Libra, helping us to see the bigger picture within our relationships and develop more of a “live and let live” kind of attitude towards our loved ones. Jupiter in eccentric, unconventional, freedom loving Aquarius forming an aspect to Venus can help us to relate to one another in a very open-minded and tolerant manner, as we are somehow able to take a more detached, objective viewpoint and see ourselves and our relationships from a wiser, higher perspective.

With Mercury and Venus both in Libra at the moment, which encourages us to put ourselves in another’s shoes so that we can understand how they feel and see things from their point of view. Libra also reminds us to be kind to one another and is very adept at understanding both sides of an argument or issue. This is a sign that greatly values peace and harmony, which could help us to be more diplomatic with one another and more willing to understand a different perspective. Libra is the part of us that seeks to find the middle ground, although this can also mean that we sit on the fence rather than deciding one way or another or committing to a particular stance. However, in the current climate this Libran energy could be very important indeed, because it helps to see both sides of a story so that we can make an informed decision. Things are never as one-sided or black and white as they seem! Kindness is a selfless act that springs from a sensitivity and an awareness of how other people might be feeling.

Whilst we have many helpful trines during this Moon, we do also have a couple of more gnarly aspects. Chiron the Wounded Healer in Aries is forming a nagging inconjunct aspect to the Sun and Moon in Virgo, which could bring up some kind of healing crisis that makes us aware of what is out of alignment and needs adjusting. We may find ourselves feeling a bit triggered and aware of how the wounds of the past still influence us, in the form of our vulnerabilities, insecurities and tender spots that feel raw and sore when they are activated by a person or event. However, this can ultimately be incredibly healing. It helps to be reminded  ofwhat still needs attention and love, as long as we are able to treat ourselves and others gently, with compassion, understanding, forgiveness and kindness. Some wounds never heal completely, but they do fade with time and a considerable amount of inner work and conscious awareness!

Pluto is also forming a dynamic, challenging square aspect to Venus, which could bring some of our subconscious complexes and compulsions out in the realm of our closest relationships. Ultimately this could be helpful because it brings whatever is hidden or festering out into the open for it to be seen, and while this could make us feel somewhat exposed and vulnerable it could also bring greater intimacy, understanding and closeness. We all have parts of ourselves that we keep hidden away in the shadows, unseen and unloved. Pluto square Venus is the kind of aspect that could mean that we act and react in ways that make these parts of us more apparent, exposed and visible. It may not be comfortable, but could be profoundly healing and deeply transforming. Any issues we may have around power, jealousy, trust, fear of abandonment and loss could come up for us to confront and work through.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 15° Virgo, is: “ A fine lace handkerchief, heirloom from valorous ancestors”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The quintessence of deeds well done.” and “Root strength produces beautiful flowers. The neophyte who act with determination, courage and discrimination while following “in the footsteps” of his/her predecessors receives a symbolic prize from the Brotherhood ready to welcome her when she has fully proven herself on the battlefield where she meets her pasts which tries to block her way. The mystic Beloved hands her what has been woven for her out of spiritual threads”. This feels like there will be a beautiful reward from the willingness to face ourselves and do the inner work necessary to let go of whatever has been holding us prisoner or blocking our way forward.

This Moon certainly seems to be supporting change, encouraging us to step outside of the comfort zone and challenge ourselves! Beginner's luck feels like the universe rewarding us for being brave enough to try something new, and possibly this Moon will help us to do just that. It’s just about taking the first little step. Is there something that we know we need to do for ourselves that we have been putting off because it feels a bit scary? Well, this is the perfect Moon to step up and move past the fear! Spiritual growth doesn’t have to be painful or cataclysmic, rather it can come about from the willingness to keep stretching ourselves even if it feels uncomfortable to do so. In fact, the more uncomfortable it feels to do it, the greater the potential for growth! This Moon also invites us to harness one of Virgo’s greatest gifts - the art of discernment. This gives us the ability to choose, at any given moment, what is good for us and what simply needs to go. It is time to separate the wheat from the chaff, freeing ourselves from unhealthy patterns, toxicity and clutter and move forward, cleansed and purified in mind, body and spirit!

Much Love

LEO NEW MOON / LIONSGATE PORTAL - 8 August 2021

Picture
Exact at 2.50pm UK time (BST)

This is an incredibly powerful New Moon as it happens to be occurring on the same day as the Lionsgate portal, a powerful moment in time that occurs every year and is most active around the 8th of August. This certainly adds a bit of magic to this Moon, helping us to connect to the lion within us! New Moons are already a powerful time, when we leave behind whatever isn’t serving us in the dark of the Moon and sow seeds for the month ahead. Any intentions we set during this particular New Moon will have extra special potency as we are invited to step through the gateway with a resounding “Yes!” and fully embrace whatever might be on the other side. This is a really good time to really connect to our heart’s desires, contemplating what we want to create for ourselves and what brings us our greatest joy. It’s not every day that the New Moon coincides with this portal, so we must make the most of the magic and potency of this special moment.

We are invited to connect to our higher self and to allow it to lead the way, showing us what we wish to manifest in our lives. Leo rules the heart, while the Lionsgate portal involves the rising of Sirius, a star which is considered to be our spiritual Sun and helps us to truly connect to our hearts and the divine. This is not a time for “thinking” about what we want, but more a time for feeling, tuning in and seeing what comes up. What, when it comes down to it, do we really, truly yearn for? What brings us our greatest joy? Where and with whom might we find ourselves if we simply followed our heart? Are we able to unequivocally say “Yes!” to whatever waits on the other side? Can we be that brave? If we were able to create the life we truly wish for, what would it look like?

Leo helps us to connect to the playful, creative, expressive, spontaneous child within us, following our bliss and doing whatever feels good and makes our hearts happy. Children don’t over think, second guess or analyse what they do next - they simply do it, even if it gets them into a bit of hot water once in a while! Leo is the part of us that isn’t afraid to take a risk. It is the part of us that knows that it is much better to open our hearts and trust and take a chance that we might be let down once in a while rather than never even trying. We are invited to fully shine our light during this Moon, basking in its brilliance and expressing all that we are and all that is in our hearts. Mercury, the planet of the mind and communication is also in Leo, bringing creative ideas and the capacity to truly express what is in our hearts in a light and playful way. There is the potential for such joy during this time, as we are invited to have the courage to jump in and accept whatever comes our way, trusting that it is for our highest good.

Uranus, the Great Awakener and harbinger of change, is a very big player during this Moon, bringing the potential for a sudden shift of perspective. This is the planet of revolution and rebellion that prompts us to question the status quo and to march to the beat of our own drum. As such, we may see more protests and uprisings during this time, as people wake up and find their Lion’s roar! Uranus is forming a challenging and dynamic square aspect to the Sun and Moon, which could bring out our more wilful side and could help to liberate us from any old programming or conditioning that is simply not serving us anymore. We all have scripts that are playing from childhood, roles we have played and  decisions that we have made along the way that hold us back and prevent us from truly flourishing in our lives and relationships. Uranus can help us to unbind ourselves from the chains that hold us prisoner, stuck in outworn, unhealthy patterns and habits. This could be such a powerfully liberating Moon, freeing us up to be who we have always been, before any parental or societal conditioning ever took place.

Uranus can bring sudden shocks that shake and wake us up. It can shift us out of stagnant ruts and show us where we are stuck in our programming, bringing a blast of fresh air into our lives that clears away the proverbial cobwebs. Sometimes things have to break down in order for us to experience a proper breakthrough. Sometimes we need a shock or a wake up call that helps jolt us back into alignment and see clearly. It is quite possible that there will be some epiphanies and “aha” moments over the next few days! Uranus is a very erratic planet that sends out curve balls and surprises that can be both unsettling and exciting. This radical planet of sudden change is currently in Taurus, a sign that likes to feel safe and secure and isn’t a big fan of change! As such, there is a sense of the ground being a bit unstable underneath us and everything feeling quite uncertain, and we may even feel as if we have lost our compass. We are asked to embrace this uncertainty and to be as flexible as we can possibly be, bending with the winds of change rather than rigidly resisting whatever comes our way.

The square between Uranus and the Sun will peak late at night on Friday 6 August (UK time) but will still be very strong during this Moon. Anyone with personal planets or angles around 14° degrees of a sign, especially the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, will be feeling the energy of Uranus most acutely. Uranus prompts us to do things differently, to bust out, to break the mould and find a different way of doing things that is more in alignment with our authentic self rather than our conditioned, programmed self. Chiron the Wounded Healer is also involved in this story, bringing the potential for such amazing healing to take place as we release ourselves from our shackles and chains, in whatever form they take. Who are we really, outside of the baggage we have picked up along the way? This is an ideal time to put it all down and simply walk away, leaving it behind in the dark of the Moon and courageously stepping through the gateway with joy in our hearts and a lighter step.

Mars, the warrior planet, is forming a square to the Nodes of the Moon during this Moon that will be exact on Tuesday 10 August. Mars invites us to find our courage, to stand up for our beliefs and principles, to find our voice, to channel our energy into something productive, to harness our anger in healthy ways and to assert ourselves in a helpful manner. Mars is in Virgo right now, so this is a good time to work on ourselves and do what we can to make life better for ourselves and our loved ones. Mars in Virgo likes a good project, but can also be rather perfectionist and critical of self and others. Anger and aggression could be an issue during this Moon and has the potential to be destructive as people criticise or pick on one another because of their beliefs and opinions. However, this humble, earthy, no nonsense Mars could also help us to find the motivation, desire and will to find practical solutions to whatever we are facing.

The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 17° Leo, is: “A volunteer church choir singing religious hymns” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The feeling of togetherness which unites men and women in their dedication to a collective ideal. Religion in its institutionalised aspect is the attempt to give a transcendental character to the feeling of community. The fellowship of common work, needed for substance and security in a dangerous world, is exalted in periodic rituals in which the co-workers participate. At such moments the consciousness and feelings of human beings flow into a common mould in which they become refreshed by the experience of shared values and beliefs. What is sung reflects the special way in which a particular community of human beings – extensive as it may be – interprets the deepest realities of human existence and man’s longings for an ideal. The symbol expresses the idealised aspect of TOGETHERNESS.”

This symbol could be prompting us to join with others of like mind, our voices joining in unison so that they can be heard. Someone once told me that within five minutes of singing together our hearts synchronise, beating as one. This is such a beautiful thought! Singing is such a joyful and uplifting form of self-expression, while a choir suggests a feeling of unity, belonging and shared faith. Hymns are not just any kind of song, they are songs to and from the divine and are best sung from the heart. Leo is the part of us that loves to dance, sing and express all that we are. Possibly this is what the New Moon/Lionsgate portal is asking of us - to open our hearts and allow all that is within them to pour out of us. To join together and sing a new world into being. To bravely jump through the portal and embrace what lies on the other side. To take a risk. Above all, we are invited to listen to our hearts and allow them to show us the way.

Much Love

CANCER NEW MOON - 10 July 2021

7/6/2021

Picture
Similarly, our values are having a massive overhaul, and what used to hold meaning no longer feels important. Exact at 2.16am UK time (BST)

The Cancer New Moon is always an important one, as it focuses on our emotional foundation and prompts some pretty fundamental questions such as: “Where do I belong?”, “Who is my family and tribe?”, “What do I need to feel emotionally secure?” and “Where is home?” Last year at this time we had two Cancer New Moons, bringing these questions very much into focus, and so this Moon could be a continuation of a process that began then. The Moon is very much at home in its own sign and could activate our inner Cancerian, bringing out the more nurturing, sensitive and emotional side of our nature. New Moons tend to spark a new cycle of emotional development, setting an energetic ball in motion that plays out over the course of the month. It is a time of new beginnings, when we have a chance to leave whatever isn’t serving us behind in the dark of the Moon and start fresh.

The Sun and Moon are forming their monthly union in Cancer, a sign that represents our childhood, our family, our home, our homeland, our roots and our ancestry. Cancer is the part of us that can tend to dwell in the past, clinging on to what has been and finding it hard to let go. It is the part of us that can be a bit insecure and needy, usually because of unresolved issues from our childhood whereby our emotional needs were not met. Whenever Cancer is being activated we have a chance to look at and work on this aspect of ourselves, recognising how our inner child might still need some healing.

We are invited to consider what we need to do in order to make sure we feel safe and secure, so that we don’t need to rely on others to do that for us. How can we parent our inner child? Where is our safe place; our home? Is it a physical home, or a place inside of us? It is worth considering where our Moon is in our charts, as the sign and house it is in represents what brings us a sense of emotional security and makes us feel at home.

One of Cancer’s superpowers involves being able to feel and access our emotions, which is so very important as they can show us how we truly feel and what we need to do. It is so important to honour our feelings and to make sure that we take care of ourselves and also allow ourselves to be taken care of. This is very difficult for some, as it is very hard to show vulnerability and admit that we can’t cope. However, being able to show our vulnerability is actually a strength, not a weakness. No woman/man is an island, and Cancer reminds us just how important our tribe is as a support system and safe haven when the going gets tough. And family does not necessarily mean blood relations, but can be our soul family that we have accrued along the way. Now, more than ever, it is so important to surround ourselves with people who love, nourish, support and nurture us, enabling us to relax and be completely ourselves without censorship. People who make us truly feel at home and bring a sense of comfort and belonging are truly to be cherished.

Neptune in Pisces is forming a supporting and harmonious trine aspect to the Sun and Moon, which is so lovely as it dissolves our walls and barriers, melting our hearts and encouraging us to treat ourselves and others with acceptance, kindness and compassion. There is a sweet tenderness to this combination, helping us to understand where each other is coming from and to drop any judgement or sense of separation. This is helped by Jupiter also being in Pisces right now, bringing more of a sense of unity, tolerance, kindness, hope and faith that ultimately things will work out for the best. And this is so needed right now, when people are so very polarised and divided. United we stand, divided we fall! Neptune will trine the Sun exactly on 15 July, while Jupiter will remain in Pisces until 28 July, when it will move back into Aquarius until 30 December.

Pluto and Chiron, the Wounded Healer, are forming challenging aspects to the Sun and Moon, although they are not that strong at the time of the New Moon. Pluto is opposite, in Capricorn, bringing up issues around power/powerlessness and control, forcing us to dig deep and find the inner resources we need in order to move forward. It is harder to avoid the darker side of life when Pluto is around. And with Pluto in Capricorn we are certainly being exposed to the darker side of the power structures at the moment. It is possible that we could feel a sense of powerlessness at the hands of those in authority, but this is where our tribe comes in, as we embrace the softness of Cancer, gathering together, supporting one another and helping each other cope with whatever comes our way. Chiron could bring about some emotional pain and trigger our “stuff” but can also bring great healing.

However, we also currently have Venus and Mars, the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine, joining together in playful, expressive, creative, romantic Leo! This is a very warm, passionate, fun and joyful energy to have around, which is so very welcome! Leo invites us to follow our hearts and do whatever brings us our greatest joy, and what better place for the cosmic lovers to be coming together right now! This could bring out our more romantic, joyful passionate nature and kick start a new cycle of development in our relationships. Leo can help us to express ourselves from our hearts and to follow the path of love and joy. This could be a rather fun, joyful time for our relationships and could also bring up some very strong desires.

Anyone with personal planets or angles around 19 degrees of a sign, especially the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, will feel this energy most acutely. The conjunction will be exact on 14/15 July, when it will be at its strongest, but Venus and Mars will be dancing with each other between now and around 20 July. It could be really beneficial for all of our relationships, not just the intimate ones, helping us to express what is in our hearts and show more love towards one another.

In the build up to this Moon we will have Saturn opposing Venus and Mars, while Uranus will be forming a square to the cosmic lovers. This brings the tension of the Saturn Uranus square into play again. Saturn is the part of us that feels fear and likes to be in control, tending to hold back, sometimes through fear. Uranus is the part of us that seeks freedom, excitement, progression and change. We may feel a tension between the old way of being in relationship, based on our societal and parental conditioning and tradition, and a new way of relating that we have not experienced yet and is in the experimental phase! Similarly, our values are having a massive overhaul, and what used to hold meaning no longer feels important.

Do we remain stuck in old patterns of being and relating that don’t suit or serve us, or do we contemplate a different way of doing things that is more true to who we really are and brings a greater sense of space, authenticity and freedom? Uranus can mean having to step out of our comfort zone into unknown territory, but it can be so very liberating to free ourselves from limiting and outmoded patterns. The square between Uranus and Venus will be exact on Thursday 8 July and could bring a bit of a shock or a wake-up call in the realm of relationships, values and finances which could shake things up a bit! Uranus doesn’t like stagnation or “comfortable ruts”! Anyone with personal planets and angles around 14° will feel this square between Uranus and Venus most acutely, especially the fixed signs.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon, at 19° Cancer, is: “A priest performing a marriage ceremony”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “The ritualisation of productive interpersonal relationships”. This is interesting considering the emphasis on relationships during this Moon! I have also seen this symbol written another way, which feels even more appropriate considering the involvement of Saturn and Uranus: “A fragile miss, representative of proud old blood, is wed by a pompous priest to an eager youth of the new order”. This feels like a “marriage” of the old and the new, and a sense of being open to new ways of being in relationship. This symbol is quite evocative, as it makes one wonder how the marriage between this eager fresh blood and the fragile old blood will work out! They both could be in for a bit of a shock, but can hopefully find a way forward that works for both of them.

The Sun and Moon may be in Cancer, a sign that is known for being quite sensitive and emotional, but we also have Venus and Mars in Leo and Mercury in communicative Gemini, which changes the energy somewhat, making it less concentrated. While Cancer is prompting us to find a sense of belonging and align with our tribe, Leo is inviting us to open our hearts, express our love and follow the path of joy. Meanwhile, Mercury is coming to the end of its own sign, bringing lots of communication, learning and sharing of information. It feels like a good mixture of energy, while the Uranus Saturn square continues to have an impact as we contend with the rigid, controlling energy of Saturn versus the unpredictable, revolutionary energy of Uranus. Meanwhile, this Cancer Moon invites us to practice allowing our emotions to flow and our vulnerability to show. In order to do this, however, we need to find our place of safety, wherever and with whoever that may be.

Much love

I love writing about the Moon and the effect it has on us all, both collectively and personally. We all look at the same Moon and feel her energy, albeit in different ways. It reminds us that we are not alone and there is something very comforting about that!
