This Moon could pack a punch, that’s for sure, as we have Mars, the warrior planet, very much involved in the picture. Generally, Sagittarius season brings a welcome respite from the intensity of Scorpio season, which has involved a considerable amount of soul searching and shedding skin. The movement of the Sun into Sagittarius brings some levity, enthusiasm and humour to the picture, as this is a sign that can help us to see the silver lining and to laugh at ourselves and the absurdity of life. Sagittarius season generally has a jolly vibe to it, when we tend to eat, drink and be merry, often to excess! This year, however, we also have feisty Mars traveling alongside the Sun for the first few days, which could bring up anger, rage, aggression and egoic reactions, but could also help us to be brave, energetic, forthright and direct. This Moon could certainly be a high energy one!
This Gemini Full Moon brings up themes around communication, opinions, beliefs, truth/lies, learning, teaching and preaching. The pace generally quickens around the time of a Gemini Full Moon, as Gemini is a curious, inquisitive sign that tends to have fingers in lots of pies. With Mars so heavily involved, we could find ourselves having to defend our beliefs, or experiencing people ramming their opinions down our throats, or having heated debates or emotionally fraught conversations that get us a bit hot under the collar. However, Mars could also help us to finally face the truth of the matter and to have the courage to have that conversation that we have been putting off because it is too scary. It can give us the courage of our convictions and help us to “put our money where our mouth is”, so to speak! It could feel important to speak our truth.
Full Moons tend to bring anything out into the open that has been simmering away beneath the surface over the week or so beforehand. Emotions can run high, and this Moon is no exception, with Mars involved! It is important to watch our actions and reactions, during this time, and to make sure that we are not reacting from a place of ego. Mars and the Sun joined forces in Scorpio on 17/18 November and have been travelling together ever since, which could have been making us more irritable, reactive, defensive and easily angered, but has also had the potential to help us to face things that we might usually shy away from. Including ourselves! Sometimes facing the truth is very scary indeed, because then we might actually have to act on it!
Saturn in Pisces is also a key player during this Moon, as it is forming a dynamic square to the Sun, Mars and the Moon. Saturn is a very karmic planet, teaching us about accountability and responsibility for our actions, and reminding us that we reap what we sow. It can bring us a big reality check, whereby we are forced to see things as they really are, rather than how we would like them to be. We could experience feelings of frustration, as we might feel blocked, somehow, although any obstacles could simply be telling us that now is not the time and that we must simply be patient. Saturn square Mars can bring anger, brute force or aggression at the hands of the authorities, but could also call for us to control our impulses somehow. Indeed, we could be prevented from acting, or feel somehow like we can’t fight back. We could also be facing the repercussions of past actions and paying our dues somehow.
Uranus, the Great Awakener and harbinger of change, is forming a nagging inconjunct aspect to Venus, the planet of love, values, self-worth and our capacity to relate and to attract money. Uranus has been so present in all the Moons in recent times, and this one is no exception. It feels like we are being called to be utterly authentic within our relationships and to break out of any unhealthy patterns or relating that simply no longer serve us. Uranus calls for us to be true to ourselves and can bring about tremendous insight and higher perspective on how we show up in our relationships. This Moon is another step along the journey of liberating ourselves from our old, conditioned way of relating, helping us to break down our unhealthy patterns and unhelpful programming that has been sabotaging us for so very long.
Those of us with personal planets or angles around 20° of a sign, especially the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, will feel the liberating, enlivening energy of Uranus the most acutely. Uranus can help us to break out of stagnant ruts, and with the planet of freedom and liberation nudging the planet of money and relating we could experience some shocks or upsets that could ultimately set us back on the right track, or at least jolt us into a greater sense of awareness of what is out of alignment. Sometimes we know what needs to change, but find it hard to act on it, but this is the kind of Moon that could leave us with no choice.
Venus is in peaceful, fair-minded Libra, sitting right next to the South Node of the Moon, which could make us more of how we may tend to acquiesce for the sake of keeping the peace, or to people please, or compromise ourselves for the sake of being in relationship, or to give our power away and avoid rocking the boat. Uranus is calling for us to take a step back and see ourselves and any sabotaging tendencies more clearly. Venus is happy in Libra, its own sign, giving us the capacity to give and receive in equal measure, and to really listen to one another so that everyone’s needs are taken into account. However, with the North Node being in Aries at the moment, we are ultimately being called to break out of any codependent patterns, to figure out what we truly need and to have the courage to act on it.
With Mars, the ruler of the Aries South Node, being so prominent during this Moon, it does feel like we are being called to take action and to be very brave indeed, possibly taking a leap of faith in the direction of our heart’s true desires. The time for people pleasing is over, rather is it time to take our power back, speak our truth, create stronger boundaries and be willing to be alone rather than in a relationship that involves compromising ourselves somehow. When we send a clear message out into the universe about what we want for ourselves, it responds in kind. This Moon does seem to be calling for us to be very brave and true to ourselves, which isn’t always easy. However, as they say, the truth can set you free.
Neptune is forming a dynamic, challenging square to Mercury, the ruler of this Gemini Moon, which is exact on the day of the Moon and could potentially make communication a bit unclear and confusing, while our minds could be a bit foggy! Indeed, there is the potential for deception, gaslighting and smoke screens with this combo, as well as propaganda. Those of us with personal planets or angles around 24° of a sign, especially the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, could be feeling a bit disoriented, confused and unclear as to what is real and what is illusion. Indeed, we could find it hard to trust our own minds. Neptune can make it hard to communicate in a clear, concise manner, as we may tend to beat around the bushes or talk in riddles. It is important to make an effort to be clear, honest and truthful, in a kind and compassionate way, rather than talking in circles.
The Sabian symbol for this Moon, at 5° Gemini, is interesting: “A revolutionary magazine asking for action”, which Dane Rudyar describes as “ The explosive tendency of repressed feelings and root emotions. Every movement overstressing one direction calls forth in time an equally extreme movement in the opposite direction. This is particularly true at the level of the dualistic mind symbolised in the zodiac by Gemini. What is rigidly bound in form and convention tends to explode into formlessness. It may do so violently if socially oppressed – through revolution – or at the psychological level in psychosis; or it may withdraw inwardly into the mystical state in which one identifies with an unformulatable reality. The experience of a world of being so far unperceived by the everyday consciousness, which starts the process. In the same sense a psychedelic experience may momentarily make the mind transparent to a non-ego-structured realm of consciousness, and may lead to a sustained attempt at understanding what has been revealed of a transcendent Reality. Whether the revolutionary action is violent or peaceful, bitterly resentful or loving, the one desire is to REACH BEYOND ESTABLISHED FORMS”.
This symbol brings to mind the Mars energy in this Full Moon chart, calling us to act on our need for change. Mars definitely calls for us to be brave and to speak our minds and express ourselves from a place of truth. We may need to bring some thorny subjects out into the open that it is easier to avoid and, indeed, we may even need to admit them to ourselves first! The Sagittarius Sun calls for us to find the truth within us, while the Gemini Moon can help us to speak what is in our hearts. With Mercury, the ruler of this Moon also in Sagittarius, expressing the truth is very important indeed. Full Moons can tend to heighten our emotions and bring out whatever has been bubbling away beneath the surface out into the open, and this Moon is no exception! It is time to be brave and honest.
Much Love
