This Moon certainly has the potential to create some shifts in our lives and get things moving! Most of the planetary energy is now in Aries, which can initiate action and set things in motion, and Taurus, which can just get on with it and get things done, and is good at manifesting. Taurus is a very fertile sign, so this New Moon is an ideal time to plant some metaphorical seeds and watch them grow. Taurus is a strong, earthy, persistent sign that values security and enjoys the sensual delights, so we are invited to contemplate what we need to make us feel safe and secure and what we truly value in life. What seeds do we want to sow during this Moon that could bring a sense of stability, rootedness, safety and security into our lives?
Taurus is the part of us that has the capacity to be self-sufficient, self-reliant and self-possessed. It is the part of us that knows how to take care of our own needs and not rely on others or lean on them too heavily. During this Moon we could be called to contemplate how we can become more self-sufficient, better able to take care of ourselves and less reliant on others for our emotional and physical sustenance, whether that be people in our lives or the system. Taurus also invites us to contemplate what we truly need for survival, which is probably not as much as we think, when it really comes down to it.
What makes us feel safe? What do we need to help us to feel solid, safe and secure? Is it money, or is it something deeper than that? Do we have a healthy sense of self-worth? Do we value ourselves enough to attract all that we deserve, whether that be love or financial security? Do we feel like we deserve all the bounty that life has to offer? Are we operating from a poverty mindset, or do we have an attitude of abundance? Taurus encourages us to cultivate the feeling that there is plenty to go around and to have gratitude for whatever the universe provides.
Interestingly, we have Uranus, the planet of change, upheaval, wake-up calls and revolution sitting right next to the Sun and Moon in Taurus which has the capacity to shake things up a bit! The Taurus part of us likes things to stay the same, while Uranus reminds us that nothing can ever stay exactly the same. Change and progress is inevitable. Uranus has the potential to send the odd curveball our way, especially if we are somehow stuck in a rut. It can jolt us back onto the right path and help us to see with greater clarity and insight.
Uranus in Taurus is calling for us to think out of the box and to challenge the “norms” when it comes to money, financial security and abundance. We are invited to contemplate another way of operating in the world, as there are many ways of having an abundant life that don’t necessarily involve having a big pay packet. There are ways of meeting our needs for safety and security that don’t necessarily follow the conventional route.
As we move further into this new world and new paradigm, we are invited to see things from a different perspective and to open our minds to different possibilities when it comes to wealth and prosperity. We are invited to contemplate our true values - what holds meaning for us and how we would like to live, if we had the choice. With Pluto now in Aquarius, calling for freedom, community and equality for all, and Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius in the sign of values and survival, we are being prompted to consider a shift of perspective so that together we can create a more utopian reality that the one we are currently facing.
We have an opportunity, while Uranus is still in Taurus, to shift our way of thinking entirely when it comes to survival, so that we can truly thrive. The old way is crumbling, with its pyramid structures and hierarchies, so it is important to move with the times and be willing to adjust our perspective and mindset. During this New Moon, with the help of Saturn in Pisces, we are invited to dream up some tangible, realistic and possible ways of creating the ideal world that we would like to live in. When it comes down to it, how do we truly want to live in order to feel happy, fulfilled and at peace? Uranus encourages us to think outside the box and to be utterly true to ourselves, liberating us from lifetimes of conditioning and programming around money and survival.
Venus, the ruler of the Taurus Moon, is also in Taurus, and she is very happy and comfortable in her own sign! This can help us to attract and manifest what we want and need, which is very helpful for this New Moon! Venus is starting to move towards a conjunction with the Sun which will be exact on 4 June, but she will be gaining ground throughout this month, giving it a decidedly Venusian flavour. Venus in Taurus heightens our enjoyment of the simple pleasures in life and takes great pleasure from connecting with the natural world. Mars has also recently gone into his own sign, which can help us to take action and give us plenty of energy, enthusiasm and drive, especially now that he is leaving behind the conjunction with Neptune, which wasn’t exactly the best for energy and motivation!
Mercury and Chiron join forces in Aries for the third and final time over the next couple of days, exact on 7 May, a few hours before the New Moon. The first time they met was 20 March, then Mercury went retrograde and rejoined Chiron on 15 April. This is the final pass and could signify the completion of a process which has been helping us to develop a more conscious understanding of our core wounds. We could have some honest, direct, open, candid conversations that are potentially a bit painful but could also be incredibly healing. We might also find ourselves speaking from a wounded place inside of us. Mercury in Aries can tend to speak first and think later, and words do have the power to hurt!
However, whatever is said during this time, despite being somewhat triggering and hard to hear, could also be very helpful and healing. As such, we are encouraged to have a willingness to look at ourselves rather than being defensive or reactionary. It is also possible that we will need to muster the courage to say something that we know will be hard for the other person to hear, but this is an ideal time for getting things out into the open so they can potentially bring healing and resolution. Those of us with personal planets or angles around 21° of a sign will feel the energy of this conjunction most acutely, especially the cardinal sign of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
The Sabian Symbol for this Moon is a powerful one, at 19° Taurus: “A new continent rising out of the ocean” which Dane Rudyar describes as “The surge of new potentiality after the crisis. The symbol need hardly be commented upon. When the mind has been emptied and light has been called upon to purify the consciousness freed from its attachment and contaminations, a new release of life can emerge out of the infinite Ocean of potentiality, the Virgin SPACE. What will it be used for? We find in this symbol a suggestion of how to approach whatever new phase of life has been not only hoped for, but actually confirmed. The “technique” is simply to allow the infinite Potential to operate in unconstrained SPONTANEITY. This means to have reached a state in which the conscious, rational ego is no longer a controlling factor.”
What a symbol! What potential this New Moon holds! Sometimes crisis is needed to create the necessary shifts, jolting us into new awareness and perspective, and creating a tabula rasa. On a collective level, it does seem as if we need some kind of a clean slate when it comes to our antiquated financial system, although that is unlikely to happen overnight. We are encouraged, with this Moon, to have an attitude of gratitude and work on having an abundance mindset. Fear blocks the flow of energy, while being grateful for whatever we already have encourages more goodness to come our way. We tend to get what we focus on, so gratitude is definitely the way to go!
Much Love
